Peonies. are large frangrant flowers, having just one in a room can fill it with a lovely scent. but unlike some flowers it isn't to overwhelming just calming. We have some growing in the backyard that I've always love to pick and bring into the house. but I'm not the only one that likes them.
The ants do too. I've read a bit on ants and Peonies and it's rather interesting to hear about it. and old wives tale is that Peonies attrack ants and that ants need to "tickle" the buds so they can open. looking at the pictures it looks like that might be the case. of course other places state that Peonies don't actually need the ants and that they are just after the necture that the buds have.
One thing I know is that the flowers that result make up for any ants on the buds. besides who can blame them for wanting to go get some sweets on a hot afternoon?
