Musings on SCIENCE!!!! (Part 1)

Before I begin, I know that there are those of you who will read this who are real, bonifide scientists who work in laboratories and know more about this stuff than I do. Please correct me on any of this that I get wrong. That said, I've been thinking in a scientific vein lately. Specifically, some implications of certain scientific laws and ( Read more... )

After this has sufficiently baked your noodle, feel free to proceed to the next entry. Don't worry. This still bakes my noodle every time I think about it. And it makes me really, really happy too.

The bit that amazes me the most is that even though we're never really seeing each other as we are, but rather as we were (even if that means only nanoseconds in the past), communication still works. We can still interact with each other even though we exist in literally different "now"s, and in a certain sense in entirely different universes.

More on your next entry. :)

Huh. 'Cause yeah, your brain still requires processing time, even if that processing time is so fast that it gives the illusion of the present. Never thought about that, but it makes sense.

Even more so, light never travels instantaneously (even though it often seems to). That means that even when watching an event happening a millimeter away we see it as it used to be, a billionth of a second ago.

But you're right that nerves transmit signals over time, and the brain takes time to process and understand those signals. This all adds time, and means that much as we may wish to live in the present we only live in the present with regards to our own internal reality. Whenever interacting with external events, we live eternally in the past.
