Memorial day weekend over

May 30, 2005 22:30

Ahhhh another memorial day weekend has come and gone, I love memorial day weekend because it reminds most of us that take our soldiers for granted, to know that they paid the ultamite sacrafice for our freedom.  Freedom isn't free...

Well friday was a long day for me, my day started at 4:00 AM by the ring of the dispatch phone.  AAA on the line looking for a tow on HWY 18 right off of I-90.  I sent my guy Jesse out on it, I laid back down but couldn't sleep, Jesse calls me when he gets on scene about an hour later and says that the customer doesn';t have enough money to take the car to Tacoma cuz he is only a basic AAA member.  So Jesse goes home and shortly after I get another AAA call.  I got up around 6:00 and dispatched till around 10:00 and then I towed the rest of the day.  We also fired a guy that day for pulling off a stund he never should have never thought about doing in the first place.

Karl had his ex wife call in, saying she broke down on the side of the free way and wanted to get towed to Oak Harbor and she wanted him specifically to take the call which i didn't mind if he took the call or not because i understand she'd prolly want someone she knows to tow him, but I told him that we had other work to take care of first because we were on the board and she's just going to have to wait her turn, it's only fair, so i told him to call her back and let her know that there is going to be a delay and if she wants us to tow her that she will have to say "I want Pit Stop towing to take this call"

well bout that time I took off in the other flatbed to run some calls, I get back to the shop and my dad tells me "btw I just fired Karl, I want you to sit down and let me explain to you why"  I had a feeling it was bout that call.  Basically what he did was his wife never broke down.  He had her call in the call so he could take it, the tow would have been about 3 hours round trip, and so he went home and took a nap.  My father tried to get a hold of him because he didn't hear Karl call loaded or anything, and Karl's explanation was "well I was tired so I had my ex wife call it in so I could get some sleep because I worked 15 hours the other day" that pissed me off big time because it is the busiest tow weekend of the year, all of us have been busting our asses all day non-stop might I add, and he is sleeping and getting paid for it.  what a fucking douche.  15 hours is nothing, I've towed for 19 hours straight before and got up the next day after 3 hours of sleep and I never complained once.  It is a job, it is work that has to be done.

so I gave the blue truck to Franklin when he got on the click and I hopped in Karl's truck when he dropped it off and I ran his truck for the rest of the day.  I towed non stop till 2:30 in the morning and went home n took a shower and finally got to sleep at 3:00 after everything had died down.  That night I got 6 hours of sleep and it felt GREAT!!!  Yea I had a 23 hour work day.  We;ve lost a lot of employees from this job, towing is tuff, and it isn't for everyone.  They usually leave because they say the job is too stressful, no one has ever quit because the money wasn't good, except for one person, but he was getting more money than he has ever been paid before and he tried to bluff us for a raise, we didn't bite.  Thats fine though, I'd rather have people leave that can't hande the job cuz all it does is weed out the weaklings.  Somedays you get paid $8.00/hr, some days you can get up to $30/hr The job is tuff if you have a family because you are on call 5 days a week for a 24 hour period each day.  I don't mind working my ass off, I ain't saying that I'm tuff, but I have endurance and I know that I can work hard and be a hard worker if I have to support my family, and I'd do it in a heartbeat so that my wife n kids can have a good life.  But thats years down the road, hopefully I'll be makin $100,000+ a year after getting my engineering degree

so today I installed the barn doors on my suburban.  I've been meaning to do that for over a year now, I lost the hindges that I had from the original suburban which I got the barn doors off of.  I realized too that because my truck has so much lift it is such a pain in the ass to have to reach inside the truck and open the tailgate latch, it's so much easier just reaching for the door handle on the barn doors.  Besides i have bigger plans for my truck (ie more lift) so in the long run it'll be better, besides I like the looks of barn doors on suburbans better than tailgates.

Ya so Lara and I are gonna go on this road trip for sure to see these two people for the first time that we've been talking to that we both met online n that we've been talking to for a while.  I think we both have this weird little crush on these people but it's one of those things that cuz they are so far away it makes things different u c?  I've been in a situation or two like this and what usually end up happening is a drop of communication and it kinda ends that way.  Well ya never know.  I'm hopefully gonna go down to Colorado n see her one of these days :)

Well Chevy won the Coca-cola 400 this weekend w00t.  Chevy all the way, Jimmy Johnson and Bobby LaBonte (I think thats how you spell it) were head to head with Bobby ahead the last few laps, but Jimmy passed him on the outside at the last corner and took the checkered flat by a nose hair.  Damn was a close race.  Tony Stewart didn't have a top finish but thats alright, he'll get em next time.  Greg Biffle another one of my favorites finished 6th I believe but too bad he drives a Ford.  Both Bobby and Jimmy drive Chevys so they are A+ to me!

I'm heading back to Pullman this weekend for summer school.  I am going to try really hard this time cuz I really need the grades and I want that GPA to boost up.  Besides I am tired of college and wanna get out as soon as possible and get on with my life.  Oh by the way I just became an uncle the other month.  My half brother just had a son, congrats to him!
