Opinion on special effects: not bad. apparently you could clearly see Edward's golden contacts but I'm really bad at spotting contact lenses so that was fine with me. The colour was also beautiful <3. The special effect that REALLY ANNOYED ME: when Edward went out into the sunshine and glittered. From what I took from the book there's sooo much glittering he would stop traffic and people walking in the streets. Also, he's also supposed to kind of shine, not only in a glittery way. In the movie he didn't outwardly (?) shine at all and at first I couldn't even see the glittering. Which is a shame because the glittering is supposed to be super-cool in the book. But anyways.
Plot: not bad at all. There were a few things that changed, and I generally preferred how they went on in the book but the movie didn't substantially change it, or at least it doesn't at all change the outcome. The only thing that annoyed me was that Bella didn't tell Edward her theories and he didn't tell her he was a vampire in the car, I mean the car scene was awkward, but in a bad way. (Usually in this movie the awkward parts were hilarious - this was just plain awkward.) Also, when she does tell him that she thinks he's a vampire in the forest he's immediately like "I need you to see what I look like in the sun" before you know it's actually happening.
Me while this was happening: "wha-".
I just love the scene in the book where he shows her what he looks like in the sun because she looks forward to it for a while and it's like how she knows he's going to show her so there's this...I don't know...excitedness? In that scene. Well anyways, that's pretty much the only plotpoint that really annoyed me. What I liked about that scene, though, was that Edward "made" her say what he was out loud, I thought that was smart (if you catch my drift.) I also liked how he felt so...torn about his situation that he showed her (physically) how deadly he really is. (With the running around like crazy for speed, and ripping that huge tree out of the ground for strength...or maybe it wasn't a tree but whatever.)
Favourite moments (well a few of them): when Edward returns after school after suffering Bella's scent for the first time and opened his eyes reallllly wide and said something like "Hello. I'm Edward Cullen, pleased to meet you. I felt his nervousness. Wait I already mentioned that somewhere. oh whatever.
-when we meet the cullens for the first time in the cafeteria and Jasper passes by and someone whispers "oh Jasper's the one who always looks like he's in pain." and Jasper has such a pained expression on his face. lol.
-when we first meet the entire cullen family at their house and emmet is like "oh yeah I'm sure she's Italian, her name is Bella." LOL. and you hear italian opera playing in the background.
oh and going with that meeting when emmett waves to bella to say hi he by mistake waves the knife and not his hand. in a really silly way though. hehe.
also going with that meeting is alice and jasper's entrance. it's priceless. they jump off the branch of a tree straight into the house and alice is like "oh you do smell nice" and backs away cutely after hugging Bella. and Carlisle introduces Jasper as the newest vegetarian in the family and says that it's a little harder for him while Jasper has this pained expression on his face. he then goes "pleased to meet you". the way he says it is amazing.
oh i forgot. the very first time bella and edward meet in the lab. the shot goes from the teacher at the blackboard to edward, wearing all black, with white wings behind him which is a complete coincidence including a dead white owl (or something) being directly behind edward and the wings extend exactly in the middle of his back. and there's the contrast of his black clothes and the white wings. all coincidence, of course. it was so funny though :).
and I LOVED the baseball scene. teehee. especially the way jasper bat (he swung his bat around before, it was actually kind of hot...;) )
ALSO when edward says "I find it very fascinating to watch you sleep" which is true and i think it's said in the book but the way he says it was hilarious.
OH and when edward comes in before baseball to formally meet bella's dad and when bella tells her dad this while edward waits outside charlie is loading or fixing a gun or something. and the moment she tells him what's happening he finishes fixing the gun and loads or something but it makes a loud and menacing noise and it's very funny. you have to watch it all yourself (a few of the clips are here:

Characters + Relationships
Edward/Bella : I think the acting was the really strong point of the movie. Individually Edward and Bella were played very, very well. I love the part when Edward first introduces himself to Bella in the lab and he's so nervous that he opens his eyes veeeeery wide and is like "Hello. i'd like to formally introduce myself. I'm Edward Cullen." But he sounds SO NERVOUS. I could actually feel his nervousness and anxiety radiating off the screen. It was a little weird that one day they weren't talking and then the next Bella was all like "I can't live without you". I preferred it in the book because...well...I guess you were exposed to them as friends for a little longer, I guess. Other than that, though, they were great. I think physically they were near perfect. :) (Except for Bella not acting as clumsy as she was in the book - that's a very important part of Bella that I don't think is played up enough, but you can't have everything in life, even if it wouldn't have been so hard to play it up.)
Carlisle/Esme: Veryvery sweet and mature in a good way, like I expected. *grin*. They were both very well casted, I thought, and exactly like I expected in every way :). Carlisle was slightly too pale, I think, and Esme maybe not enough, but I reallllly liked how they were acted out ^^.
Emmett/Rosalie: I LOVED them in this movie. Emmett was the perfect combination of coolness and big brother protectiveness. I also think Kellan Lutz is a lot better looking with brown hair rather than blonde hair. Nikki Reed was also fabulous as Rosalie. Noone seems to like her but I do. I think Rosalie is actually a very interesting character, and Nikki Reed didn't look bad at all with blonde hair. I'd always imagined Clemence Poesy as Rosalie but she's supposed ot look really fierce and I think Nikki Reed perfectly got that. and I mean sure Rosalie wasn't as beautiful as she was supposed to be in the movie but I mean noone is, from what I can tell, so I'm happy either way. Rosalie and Emmett were also adorable in the movie. I kind of wish, though, that they would've given more of a background on how Rosalie and Emmett were brought together, it's kind of funny and...humourous yet OMG in the book. That would eliminate all "wtf does he see in her except for pretty looks" comments. I was quite annoyed when I heard those. (Though really I wish we would've gotten a vampire background on all characters, I actually think it's important.)
Jasper/Alice: ok so Alice Cullen is DEFINITELY MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER. I think. I mean I love all characters but I want to have Alice as a best friend and a sister and I want to be her myself all at once. I don't know if I would say the same for Esme, Rosalie and Bella, no matter how much I admire them.
Alice is just...amazing. SHE'S SO CUTE! I loved it in the movie when you first met Alice and Jasper at the Cullen's house and they jump off some sort of tree branch into the kitchen. *squeeeee!!!!*
I wish I could make that kind of entrance all the time...*sigh*. I also loved Alice's clothes (and Rosalie's but STILL Alice's clothes are quirky and cute and vintagy and stylish yet classic all at once.) Ashley Greene also played Alice soooooooo well.
Now for Jasper. I love Jasper. I'm not able to decide which is my favourite Cullen (or Hale) man but I LOVE Jasper. He's so cool. I mean he's like...shy and an introvert but he seems really intelligent and sweet and I feel like once you get to know him it'll be amazing. He had great lines in Twilight and I find it a shame that they were taken away in the movie (especially after James enters the scene.) And he's not ALWAYS in pain. But whatever, I think Jackson Rathbone played him really well. My only annoyance: Jackson thinks Jasper's last name is Cullen. I watched an interview and he was like "I'm Jackson Rathbone and I played Jasper Cullen in Twilight". His name is Jasper Hale. Oh and it's Rosalie Hale. That's why it's not as freaky in the book as it is in the movie that Jasper/Rosalie are dating Alice/Emmett. Either way Jackson fits Jasper perfectly physically.
Alice and Jasper in the movie were PERFECT together. Teehee. Here's a video of Jackson (Jasper) always calling Ashley (Alice) his wife because that's technically what they are in the movie. Jackson kisses Ashley too ^^. So cute.
I do wish they'd included more background on Alice's past, it was very interesting, but I mean it doesn't advance the book (or at least the first 2 books, because I've only read the first 2) in any way so I guess I kind of understand. (Not how she was bitten but her past as a human.)

this is the video interviewing a few of the Twilight actors, and at around 4:50min Jackson and Ashley kiss and Jackson's like "oh I wouldn't be any other character because I have this beautiful wife (Jasper and Alice are technically married). Watch the entire video though, it's only about 5min and it's soooo cute. ^^
Ok what else...sorry I don't feel like getting into every single character...
OH. I FORGOT. THEY'RE MAKING ANOTHER ADAPTATION OF THE SECOND BOOK IN THE SERIES, NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!! I'm sooooooooo excited. I think it'll be even harder to make this book than to make the first book because if they follow the book exactly Rob Pattinson will not be in it for the entire middle part (so like 3/4 of the book) and he was what attracted a lot of people to this movie. and I mean sure I'll really miss Edward but I feel like when he reappears at the end of the book it'll be that much more moving/stronger than if they'd shown him throughout the second movie. But anyways. *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* and Alice plays a MUCH BIGGER role in the second book. That's a good thing!!! ^^

currently listening to: "Running up that hill" by Placebo (kind of reminds me of Twilight, especially Edward and Bella's relationship)
current mood:
high on Twilight and the Cullen family (especially the Cullens, though) (I'm not really high on Jacob Black but the actor who plays him, Taylor Lautner, is quite yummy...)
