Yet another Lileks-ism

From today's Bleat:

I have no bumperstickers, for the same reason I do not paste editorials with which I agree on the seat of my pants.

That about sums up how I feel about the matter. I also don't wear t-shirts with snarky slogans. It took me a while to figure this out -- I have several, I just never wear them. So if you see a t-shirt that says something that totally screams "Froggi!" at you, please write it down, and tell me about it. Please do not buy it for me. In part, it's professional: you never know who you're going to bump into in an unlikely place, and appearances matter in law more than in most fields. In part, I don't want anyone's first impression of my politics to be an entirely out of context phrase on a bumper sticker or t-shirt. As one of my philosophy professors used to say: "Any philosophy that can fit in a nutshell belongs there." Opinions are nuanced. And third, I don't want to offend anyone on first sight. If I'm going to offend someone, I want it to be because I am pointing out that he, personally, is a doofus who engages in stupidthink. There are lots of great ways to offend people. T-shirts are just not my style.
