I'm just impressed his homemade sword was actually a lethal weapon.

The article says multiple times that the murder weapon was a "homemade samurai sword." He reportedly "slashed his co-worker to death." With a sword he made himself.
Williams arrived at his job the day of the killing armed with a homemade 38-inch samurai sword. Witnesses told police that Flemons appeared to hand Williams a piece of metal in a chivalrous manner, as if challenging him to a duel, before chasing him and stabbing him to death.

The medical examiner ruled that Williams died as a result of "multiple chop wounds to the neck."

So he made a sword out of metal, but it was either not a very good sword, or he wasn't very good at wielding it. Probably a combination of the two. By "samurai sword," I assume they mean a katana, which everyone knows is an ideal anti-zombie weapon because of its ability to decapitate in a single blow. I just hope poor Williams doesn't end up like Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington
