Scotland, Day 9

Oct 06, 2006 08:30

Inverness to Saint Andrews in the morning. We went to the British Golf Museum. It was neat to see the evolution of the golf ball, which used to be a leather ball stuffed with feathers. We had hoped to play very small golf at the Ladies' Putting Club, but it was closed. Getting out of Saint Andrews was a bit of an adventure. The map in the guide book was useless, so I just had us go vaguely south. Then we followed a bus for a while and nearly got squished. So we stopped following busses. We did eventually find our way out of the town and headed to Edinburgh.

Finding Six Mary's Place was also an adventure, because Mary's Place is a tiny little road off Raynham Place, which is the street the place was actually located on. Also, it was tucked in a bit from the street. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it when I did if it hadn't had the blue thistle sign of the Scottish Tourist Board next to the door. The room was nice, the bathroom had happy sea creatures on the wall, and for reasons I don't understand, there were wee sponges next to the tea service. The tea pot was half-filled with cold tea, which made me very cranky.

Having spent half of the day driving, Nik wanted to rest that evening, so we got Indian takeout and drank the Ginger Wine with it in the room. The saag was different from the saag we get here, but it was excellent once my brain stopped expecting it to be like Kabob & Curry's saag. And the ginger wine went really well with it.
