Thankful Thursday: Arctic Blast Edition

Jan 18, 2024 20:11

I'm forcing myself to do a thankful Thursday on this Thursday when I really don't feel all that thankful. The arctic vortex weather hit my area on Sunday with lots of snow and single-digit temperatures. I've survived so far, and now that we're finally getting highs above freezing again, I'm hoping that the worst of winter weather is behind me. Obviously, I'm thankful for having a house to live in, bed to sleep in, food to eat, etc., but here are some more specific things:

~ I was able to go to the store and load up on groceries and another asthma inhaler right before the snow got bad on Sunday. Sara and I got chocolate chip cookie dough to bake, the makings for our favorite cheese dip, and a frozen lasagna, so we've been eating well. I finally learned how to make a grilled cheese sandwich, too! (Yes, it has only taken me my entire adult life.) This one of my goals for 2024.

~ Work was called off on Monday! I got a "snow day" text from my boss around 7am and almost immediately fell back asleep after reading it. I got a little stir-crazy from being inside on that gray, dreary, freezing-cold day, but I also needed a good rest.

~ I finally bought a snow shovel. I already had gotten rock salt and faucet covers, but I didn't get a snow shovel until Saturday, right before the freeze hit. Shoveling my driveway in 15-degree weather when I was already coughing and feeling crappy wasn't fun, but having a snow shovel definitely made it easier.

~ I have plenty to read (currently on Picnic at Hanging Rock, which I'm really enjoying, and Little French Bistro, which I'm not so much). I still need to post my book statistics for last year.

~ I was able to bring Nerak inside before the cold weather hit. She and Mayim don't always get along, but they're making progress. They both love the electric blanket on Sara's bed and will lie near each other for long stretches of time. Nerak might never be a full-time inside cat, though.

Now if only I could get rid of this stupid stubborn cough! Ugh!!

thankful thursday, winter, pippa, snow
