Well, Rebecca didn't do very well at updating this journal in 2018. It was really the first year that's happened since I started this journal way back in 2007. Our biggest client at work changed their name over the summer, which meant we had to basically redo all the work we'd ever done for them with their new logo. We all had to work a lot of overtime - like, at least 6 days a week from June until almost fucking September. This journal and a few other things fell by the wayside. I couldn't make it to even one of the dog washes!
But I did stay on top of my fanfiction goal for 2018. (Yeah, you all know where Rebecca's priorities are.) I'd wanted to get to 3,000 reviews before the end of the year, and I just clocked in last night at 3,111. (I reviewed a ton over the Thanksgiving holiday to try to cheer myself up, which didn't work.) My goal for 2019 is to write fanfiction a little more and review a little less.
Anyway, a look back at a few notable things about 2018 - or as I called it, 20-chai. Some I blogged about here, and some I didn't.
In the spring, I had several dentist visits and might've actually gotten over my phobia of the dentist. Over the summer (when I wasn't busy working, and that was rare),
I tried my hand at gardening and while it wasn't a huge success, it wasn't a complete failure, either. I planted one tomato plant and a few cucumbers, and I lost more than I'd like to damn thieving squirrels and birds, but I also got a few of each to eat. In September, Sara and I went on vacation to Philadelphia and had a really good time. We did and saw so much - the Art Museum (with Vincent's Sunflowers), the Barnes Foundation, Eastern State Penitentiary, the Jewish Museum, the Liberty Bell, Liberty One Observation Deck (almost 900 feet up, Sara was terrified of it), the Mütter Museum, Reading Terminal Market (with the most delicious latkes at Herschel's Jewish Deli, which might've been the highlight of the trip for me!), and more.
As I've already posted about here,
we lost Mayim at the vet's parking lot, then found her again one week later, and in November, freak car problems ruined our Thanksgiving. The weekend before Christmas, we made a daytrip down to Athena's in-laws' house (near the state border) to have a short visit with her and Abram. We enjoyed seeing them so much, but it was kinda depressing, too. Over six stressful hours in the car just for a few hours with them, and before that,
we hadn't seen them in almost two damn years!!! Maybe this will change in 2019, but I really don't expect it to. My mom has gotten to see Athena several times this year, but when she came to visit us the weekend after Thanksgiving, she bitched about how "lonely" she is. I despise that she's the only relative who actually comes to visit us, and I swear she only does it because she misses lying to our faces. This time, she cooked a food that I've never eaten in my entire damn life (broccoli and rice), then bitched about I was making her feel so bad by not eating it. Barf. She stirs up my IBS every damn time.
