Earlier this month, I finally did what I’d been putting off and got Muse Watson’s steering system fixed. Ugh. It didn’t break my bank account, but it was waaaay more than I wanted to spend, and the mechanic place didn’t have it ready by the time they were supposed to, which made me want to kill somebody. One of their employees had to drive me home that evening and to work the next morning. Then, when I finally picked it up for what was supposed to be the last time, I’d barely even driven it (from the mechanic place to temple, which is literally right around the corner) before smoke started coming out from under the hood!!! UGH. So I hauled it back in, and this time, I had to get a ride from my roommate, and I really hate asking for rides from anyone. It was such a stressful, expensive nightmare.
Part of the reason for the big bill was that I had the oil changed and the air-conditioning fixed too while they were at it. (The A/C died sometime last summer, I think.) It was more expensive, but there are no words for how miserably poor I would’ve felt driving around through another hot summer with no air-conditioning. I’ve been trying to work a little overtime and eat out less since.
But what didn’t cost anything to fix was Muse Watson’s radio, which died earlier this year. I jerry-rigged it into working again by running a rubber band down over the power button. I was getting pretty tired of having only my iPod to listen to. I really missed new music; my favorite current songs are Adele’s "Send My Love" and P!nk’s "Just Like Fire." The radio still cuts on and off occasionally (which it’s always done) but I feel like a million bucks driving around with air-conditioning and radio on.
But to face reality, I think I’ll need to look into buying a new car in the near future. God help me. And I definitely need to find a new mechanic. I think there’s at least one other within walking distance to my job, which is a must so I don’t have to ask for a ride.
In good news, the city’s annual comic con was held earlier this month. I’d never been before, but I really enjoyed it. Their big guest this year was… Nichelle Nichols! I missed her panel because I got the time wrong, but I still got to see her for few minutes. She was in a wheelchair, but otherwise, she looked really good. I saw a lot of good cosplays, too; some of my favorites were Nightcrawler, Goku, Shredder, and a few Harley Quinns and Reys. Plus, I posted some photos I took to the event’s Facebook page as my crochet page and got a few new likes!
Training a new volunteer at the animal shelter, working a crossover fanfiction between X-Men and Les Miserables, and counting down the days until my ficaversary (which I look forward to alll year) and the 4th of July weekend. I’m working on compiling my fanfiction stats and trying to decide which young actress movie to rent from the library. (For Memorial Day, I saw A Little Romance, and it was very good.)
