We moved last weekend. U-Haul didn't honor the reservation that I made for a moving van, so we had to make a lot of trips back and forth in the truck. Blegh. My roommate complained about having to drive Muse Watson and said that moving our mattresses in the flatbed was "the most ghetto thing we've ever done." She practically screamed her head off over who was going to stay home from work while a guy came to set up the cable and Internet. But now that it's finally over, part of me is glad that the move was so unpleasant -- it's the only hope I have that she won't want to go through it all over again in 1-2 years.
The light switches here are in the middle of the walls, rather than next to the doors. I've been groping around in the dark for them a lot. My bedroom here doesn't have a ceiling fan. We have a little fan that I've been meaning to set up. I think I can make a nice shelf out of a pallet from work to put it on. My commute to work is longer, of course, but it isn't as bad as I'd feared. Thank goodness that we live so close to the freeway; I'm sure the morning street traffic would drive me crazy without it. I know it will be a long, cold schlep for me and Muse Watson in the winter, though, which I'm already dreading. I have a feeling that this place will be a lot draftier in winter in the winter than Oldpartment. And the water pressure here is really weak. But the hot water stays hot, which is really nice. The bathtub is smaller, but I like that the water gets deeper faster that way. The hot water in Oldpartment never stayed hot for very long, so baths back there tended to be on the shallow side. This complex here is on the quieter side too, and it's nice to have more space and a bigger closet. We still have to get a washer & dryer and take care of some other stuff.
Our new cable package doesn't get The Golden Girls, though. It doesn't really get much except HBO right now, so we've been watching movies and not much else. Oy. I have noticed that I can get ready faster in the mornings when I'm not watching The Golden Girls.
I never did get a day off work from to move, and as if that weren't bad enough, this week, I have to work six days (and a few of them much longer days than usual) because we're so behind on a big BOZ mailing. UGH. At this point, all I want is a weekend where I don't have to move, don't have to work, don't have to do the Jewish Food Festival, and can just sleep the fuck in.
April has been a really rough month.
Come on, May!!!
