A LOT has been happening around here these last few days. But I wasn't able to post about it before now because on Thursday morning, I woke up to find a long hairline crack in one corner of our laptop screen. The screen wouldn't display anything! We still don't know exactly how it got cracked, but I suspect Tovah had something to do with it; she probably swan-dived onto this laptop (her favorite hobby) one too many times. I dropped it off at a PC repair place that day and didn't get it back until this morning. It was a loooong weekend for me without my fanfiction! I crocheted, and Sara and I went out to eat and to the movies (
This Is the End - SO funny!) to pass the time.
Last Friday was Friday the 13th, and it turned out to be a very lucky day for me. I had a job interview that morning, and believe it or not, I got the job! After being rejected for so many others, I still can't quite believe it. I was so relieved that I almost started crying. It seems like a more professional atmosphere, and I think I will like it a lot more than my current job. The pay is better, and the hours are longer but more regular. I'm kinda nervous because I've never had a full-time job before. (Which is shameful at my age, I know, but at least I'm still batting better than my brothers.) I think I will do well there, but I keep having anxiety dreams about it. I start next week.
Friday night was Kol Nidre night, and -- gasp! -- I didn't go to the service. This is the first year I've missed it since I became a Jew. Instead, I went to Athena's house and watched Project Runway and ate chocolate cake with her and Sara. (So yes, not only did I skip the Kol Nidre, but I also ate a chocolate cake on Yom Kippur. Which is also shameful, I know.) But Athena is about to move across country, and I'm going to miss her so much! I wouldn't miss Kol Nidre for the Season 10 premiere of NCIS
last year, but I'm willing to miss it for her. I bought her a going-away cake that said "Thank you for bein' a friend!" like on Golden Girls.
I did go to the Yom Kippur morning service on Saturday... in jeans and a t-shirt covered in cat hair. (Still more shamefulness!) I knew that people usually dress up for the High Holy Days; I just forgot. But I did enjoy the service. I'd never been to the temple on a sunny morning before, and the sunlight on the trees through the sanctuary window was stunning! After the service, I went to work, and after work, Sara and I gave Tovah a bath! Ugh! She started getting fleas, and we don't want them to get any worse. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I do have scratches on my hand and foot to show for it. It seems ironic that Mayim didn't get fleas and need a bath instead; she would've put up way less of a fight than Tovah.
