I wasn't looking forward to meeting Wendy, but I enjoyed this episode more than I thought I would.

Notes on episode 9x15 Secrets
(AKA the one with Wendy, Tony's ex-fiancee)

Writer: Steven D. Binder (The Devil's Triangle)

+ Intense beginning! I jumped a little when the florist got shot.

+ Yay, we got to hear Ziva speak a little Hebrew! It's been too long since she last did that.

+ "What Gibbs doesn't know won't hurt him." Of course he's going to be standing right behind you when you say that, Tony! I loved the look on Ziva's face right then.

+ "Ziva got a speeding ticket, Boss." Haha, I told Dad on you! I liked how Tony and Ziva winced in unison at the head-smack. So cute.

+ The crime scene at the floral shop was a neat visual -- all the blood and dead bodies in the middle of rose bouquets.

+ I have to applaud Binder for the first part of this episode. Up until Wendy and the superhero group were introduced, it felt so fast-paced and fun that I thought it was written by Schenck & Cardea.

- It kinda rubbed me the wrong way when McGee explained the real-life superhero group to the rest of the team, as if he were a long-time expert on it. I know that as the team geek, McGee usually has to explain stuff, but this is getting ridiculous.

+ "Please don't tell me you were married." I loved this line and this scene. It had me intrigued and guessing because I didn't know who Wendy was right away (and in retrospect, yes, that was kinda slow on my part).

+ Abby's cat costume put one toe over too silly, but for the most part, it managed to stay on the cute side for me.

+ Things got very interesting with Gibbs and Tony's scene on the stairs. So Gibbs knew Wendy when she and Tony were engaged ("You were there when it went south") but assigned him to be her liaison anyway. Hm...

- I had kinda expected Ziva and McGee to eavesdrop when Tony was talking to Wendy, but I wish they weren't so obvious about it. Ziva is a trained spy, Binder! But who didn't flashback to when the whole team tried to eavesdrop on Gibbs and his ex in The Devil's Triangle?

-/+ Clarence annoyed me, but I loved Tony and Ziva's smiles when he told them he was a real-life superhero and showed them his card. They were trying so hard not to laugh!

+ "Someone tried to kill her, Abs." - "Maybe it was Tony." I laughed so hard at this!

- Vance seemed to really enjoy how uncomfortable Tony was being in the conference room with Wendy. Jerk.

- I really ached for Tony when he discovered that Wendy had never wanted to reconnect with him at all, but just wanted to use him as a source. Poor guy.

- Tony and Wendy's make-out scene was just ridiculous. Utterly devoid of passion.

+ I really loved the honest talk between Tony and McGee about Wendy. It's nice to be reminded that underneath all their teasing, they genuinely care about each other. It reminded me of how sincerely Tony acted towards McGee in his subplot in Life Before His Eyes last week, which I also enjoyed.

- I rolled my eyes when Tony and McGee ran into a whole gang of superheros while staking out a scene. We've never heard of these guys before, and now they're everywhere? Geez, Binder. I did like Tony talking through the loudspeaker and Abby's face when she saw Spandaxia. Lol!

- I liked Gibbs sending Tony down to autopsy, like he knew a talk with Ducky would do him some good. But Ducky's monologue diagnosing Tony and Gibbs's different pains and how they deal with them -- ugh! It was so melodramatic. "Jethro coped with his pain by repeatedly marrying the wrong woman, thus ensuring that he would ultimately be alone." Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. If he wanted to be alone so much, why didn't he just not get remarried at all? It reminded me so much of Ducky's cheesy monologue back in Restless (also written by Binder!).

+ How cute was the scene with McGee and Abby in the lab? They were so sweet together and made the perfect change from all the cheesiness and snippiness between everyone else.

+ I had Clarence's dad pegged as the killer pretty early on, which rarely ever happens for me. I loved Clarence cold-clocking that butler -- surprisingly bad-ass!

+ Gibb's "change of heart" toward the superheros. Awww.

+ I liked Tony pushing Wendy to tell him why she left. I think it must've hurt to ask those questions, but he did it because he knew he needed closure.

- "It's not gonna change what I see with my own eyes." Ugh, how I hated this implication that Wendy knew Tony so well and could see right through him. They were engaged nine years ago and have only seen each other again for a few days! It doesn't mean she knows him better than Gibbs or the rest of the team.

- "You should tell her how you feel." Ugh, not another Tiva anvil! (NB: "Tell her" was one of the items on Tony's bucket list in Engaged: Part 1.)

- "I left because I wasn't ready." It reminded of me of what Tony said to Ziva when Ray proposed to her in A Desperate Man, about how no one is really ready for marriage.
