Rebecca saw the twist coming... but who didn't?

My appetite has been so wonky lately. Today I was starving by the time I got off work (which doesn't usually happen) and had to make a big plate of spaghetti as soon as I got home. I've gotten better at making spaghetti lately; you might ask how difficult it could really be, but you don't know how badly my first attempt went.

Our internet service has been spotty tonight, so I called our provider to try to find out what was up. And my sister got mad at me for making the call on speaker phone and she "didn't want to listen to it." (I don't like holding the phone to my head for long conversations, it feels like I'm frying my brain.) Hmph.

Anyway, onto my notes for last night's NCIS.

Are you serious, writers? (Notes on episode 9x06 Thirst)

Writer: Scott Williams.

+ I really loved the opening scenes in the bullpen and on the highway. I loved the witty banter, the humor, and how the team put their heads together on what was up with Ducky and were teasing and competitive with being mean. I loved it all! Except...

- Ziva's "Maybe we should compare notes" line to Tony. I love Tony and Ziva as friends, but I don't ship them, and this felt too much like flirting for my taste. I especially didn't like it because just last week in Safe Harbor, Ziva said "ugh" at Tony's suggestion that head-slaps could be sexy. Okay, maybe that was a stupid line, and maybe it did deserve an ugh, but Ziva can't seem repulsed by Tony one week and be semi-flirting with him the next! This is a good example of how up-and-down different writers can be. I wish they'd all get on the same page.

+ Gibbs keeping a distance when Ducky tried to show him the victim's brain. Gibbs so rarely ever seems uncomfortable in autopsy or anywhere else, so this was an interesting bit.

God loves a duck, and God loves Ducky!

- I had Mary pegged as the bad guy from her first scene, and it just became more obvious as the episode went on. And from what I've read on communities and message boards (for example, here and here) a lot of other viewers did too and felt like the writers were insulting their intelligence.

-- So we all knew Mary was the killer, but could the reveal scene have been any worse? She went from making Halloween treats for homeless kids to confessing to murder to trying to kill herself within a few minutes! Geez, over-the-top much? I can only suspend my belief so much, writers. I did like how Ducky stayed so calm (God love him!) but it wasn't nearly enough to save the ending for me.

- We hardly ever get Ducky-centric episodes; those usually go to Gibbs, Tony, or Ziva, while McGee, Abby, and Ducky are stuck in the background. I think Season 9 has tried to change that. We met Abby's long-lost brother in Enemy on the Hill, and McGee's grandma in Penelope's Papers. But just like with Penelope's Papers, where McGee got the same family drama as everyone else, Ducky had the same issues as everyone else -- evil boy/girlfriend! Honestly, how many of these have we had already? Let's see...

1) Michelle, Jimmy's sex-buddy from Seasons 5-6;
    2) Rivkin, Ziva's evil boyfriend from Season 6;
    3) the undercover assassin who dated McGee in Season 7 (not exactly evil, but certainly didn't have McGee's best interests at heart);
    4) Cade, Abby's evil boyfriend from Seasons 8-9;
    5) and probably some more that I'm forgetting!

Ugh! How many times can the writers reuse this? Given the team's track record, any new love interests should just be shot on sight!

- In a way, it kinded reminded of the sixth episode of last season, Cracked, which also spotlightted a character who was kinda overlooked, and also sucked. But as with Cracked, this seems to be the first episode from a new writer. We can only hope that Williams will get better with time.
