Yesterday night I made up a little game to play with my iPod. I set it on random order and wrote down the first 25 songs that played. Then I listened to these songs and wrote down my favorite lyric from each one. Then I tried to rearrange these lyrics so that they told a story. Remember, Rebecca has very few English books to read and the only English channel she gets is CNN International, so she has to keep herself entertained somehow.
Anyway, the list below is the end result. You probably won't be able to see a story, but if you know the title of the song that any of these lyrics come from, let me know in comments. I think that Sara and Adam might know all 25 between them.
- I'm more than some pretty face beside a train.
- All the boys think she's a spy.
- My only regret is we've never met.
- I combed my hair in a pompadour.
- And everything around her is a silver pool of light.
- If you want to find peace of mind, come and get it.
- Ask her if she'll marry me in some old-fashioned way.
- Well baby, I surrender to the strawberry ice cream.
- You in the moonlight, with your sleepy eyes.
- Just slip me on, I'll be your blanket.
- I'm gonna be the man who's coming home to you.
- But the clock's held 9:15 for hours.
- The ice was melting, no more sheltering now.
- The infirmary man may count me dead.
- The pictures came and broke your heart.
- Don't ask any questions and don't try to understand.
- It's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain.
- You lower yours, you grant him one last choice.
- I'm getting old and I need something to rely on.
- First there's summer, then I'll let you in.
- Please don't think it wrong, just stay for the night.
- I'll make you so sure about it.
- Every memory repeats, every step I take retreats.
- Through the rainstorm came sanctuary.
- Et voilà qu'elle trotte, la lune qui flotte, la princesse aussi.
I will be mailing a few souvenirs of my trip to Belgium home tomorrow.
