What am I doing this Thanksgiving?
Well, since I had no responsibilities for this Loscon and since I had not been home for 22 years for Thanksgiving, I talked Bruce into going home to Kansas. We got the car packed and were on the road to Kansas. We left the cats with our friend, Marjorie, to care for them. We left Rancho Penasquitas at 11:30 and headed down the 8. We made Phoenix by 6 (time change), had dinner at Abuelo's and then made it to Flagstaff by 9:30 p.m.
Wanted to go to a WalMart the next morning to get a couple of things for the road and discovered there was one just next door. Picked up the stuff we thought we needed and then on the road again to Amarillo. Cathie, my sister called to tell me that Mom was going to a surprise birthday party for a friend between 3 - 6 and thought I should try to make it into Mom's by this time. So, instead of going towards Guymon, OK as we originally planned, we shot across New Mexico and part of Texas into Amarillo. Then took off late on Saturday (around 10:00 a.m.) to Oklahoma City and then north to Mom's house. Cathie had given me the code to get into Mom's garage and when I inputted it, there was her car. So, in I went and sure enough, there was Mom sitting in her study working on her computer. I creeped up beside her and asked her, "Whatcha doin'?" I surprised her quite well and she was speechless for a good five minutes. Of course, during that same five minutes, I was laughing continuously. We finally got everything unloaded from the car and managed to settle into the basement. Cathie came by to say Hi!
Sunday, while Mom went to Church, we went out to Cathie's. I worked some on scrapbook from Hawaii. When Mom showed up, we went south to Applebee's for lunch. Then, once we were back to Cathie's, Mom sat for a little bit before heading home. While she sat, she couldn't move much because she had someone on her lap.
We headed back to Mom's around 6, went to Dillons (another Kroger store)and made some chicken noodle soup. Monday, I got up and went with Mom to the YMCA for water aerobics. Bruce and I went to lunch at Red Beans Bayou Grille and man it was good. Did a little shopping and headed out to Cathie's around 6. After a couple of hours out with her, back in to Mom's.
On Tuesday, met up with Cathie at lunch time, then again for dinner and saw Kate, the lady who took our Hawaii wedding photos. Then home and a quiet evening while I did homework. Today, I went with Mom again for water aerobics, then Bruce and I went to a store called "The Spice Merchant". Great coffee, tea and some great spices. Dropped off the poultry seasoning with Cathie, Walmart and back to Red Beans again for lunch. Then, another quiet afternoon/evening with Mom. Tomorrow, Turkey Day at Cathie's with Doug, his girlfriend, Cindy and his son, Ethan. Then early Friday morning, we'll be heading back to California.
Miss my kitties but I've enjoyed my time here.
