Let me tell you about RubyQuest.
RubyQuest is a point-and-click sort of game that someone played with a 4chan board. They posted simple stick figure graphics and basic descriptions, and the board members could then make suggestions what the protagonist, Ruby, should do. The game is long since finished, but it makes for a very interesting read, especially the
flash version someone made of the graphics and the most interesting discussions among the players.
The story itself is a very creepy and twisted horror trip. Ruby wakes up in a weird research facility without memories and tries to find her way out, meeting strange creatures on her way and getting glimpses into a bleak past.
The whole thing is also funny the way classical point-and-click adventures are when the "players" struggle to find a solution or try to get Ruby to do funny stuff, or have meta discussions about the game. I don't play much anymore these days, but reading RubyQuest reminded me how video games have their very own atmosphere.
The reason I'm telling you this is that I'm going to request RubyQuest for Yuletide. I think there's lots of room for fic, for example exploring the background (the research facility, what happened before the events of RubyQuest, the other characters), and/or playing with the style of having the player interactions along with the story itself.
