First Great Western are useless. I tried to get the train to Bristol, having cycled to the station, and before (I paid for the privaladge) of getting changed I went to buy a ticket (as this weekend was orginally pencilled in for skiing). £82 ( Read more... )

A SVR to Bristol with a y-p should cost far less than that.

Not at 1730 it doesn't.

I wasn't going to wait two hours for it to get cheap.

Well, walk up fares in the rush-hour are always expensive :/ The train is likely to have been full and standing anyway.

If it's any consolation, it would have been as bad if not worse to do the same thing in France - they don't like it if you walk up and buy a ticket at the last minute.

Unless you go on Virgin(which I'm extreemly glad I wasn't), where they make an exception for YP railcard holders. I know, I've been spoilt.

And when I've got the train around France, its been the same to buy it from the ticket office as it would have been from Rail Europe.
