I fully support these choices! With the exception of #1, but only because I haven't seen that one.

Oh, #1 is a bit off the beaten track. It's one of the early first (second?) wave of Hong Kong movies, and it's all about the adventures of three unrelated women during a revolutionary action in some province or other. It's an historic costume adventure comedy wherein all the girls get to show bravery and ingenuity and form an unlikely friendship. How could I possibly resist?

It also comes from the era when the subtitles are...endearing. It's why my whole family says, "It's crowdy in here." Best of all it has Bridgette Lin in a man's suit and sharp short haircut as the Governor's daughter, who has studied abroad and become a "gynecologist". I almost named McDiva after that actress. *swoon*

I was considering Palm Beach Story but went with Lady Eve. And I'm very fond of Down With Love and Clueless.

The entire Preston Sturges catalog should probably be on here. Sullivan's Travels is another great one, not least because it inspired the Coen's to do Oh Brother Where Art Thou. There are a couple of scenes in Hail The Conquering Hero that break my heart every time. I know for a fact that my love for Whedon's works was spawned by Sturges' elegant mastery of the ensemble comedy.

"Emma" is not my favorite Austen story, and most movie versions fall flat for me, but I think that Clueless elevates it. The silly decisions the characters make are more understandable when they are 16 years old. Plus: super fun!
