What's going on.

Just a quick check-in to say: computer/phone/tech upgrades suck. But I'm getting there. Look, ma! Internet browsing: go! Moving on.

Best thing about yesterday was McDiva announcing that she now has the perfect comeback to the "why don't you smile, sweetheart" question to which females are so often subjected. "The patriarchy." Of course! Why didn't ( Read more... )

It's been a bit of a sprint, lately. Maybe July will be calmer? Nah.

Goodbye is hard to say, isn't it? Although it sounds as if your stepdad is now at peace. A hard time - but many memories will be spoken.

I think I'm emotionally prepared, but OMG I'm such a crier! Even when you know things are for the best, it's still not what you want, you know?

Bless McDiva. It is indeed always the Patriarchy (has she been reading Caitlin Moran, perchance?).

Except when it's death, of course. Sorry a sucky pile of losses have piled upon you and yours. Even if of full age or getting to say a good farewell, it's still too much all at once for one family.

Stay safe, keep smiling (except in case of Patriarchy Blues), and any time you want to post a story, we'll be reading.

I'm pretty sure that McDiva is only reading Tumblr while summer vacation marches on. ;-)

The spate of deaths only really doubly affects my brother and I, as both families are "steps" and based in different states. Frankly, the step-grandmother came as a surprise, as everybody thought she was too steeped in venom to ever die. So there's that. She was 95 and active right up until the end. She'd called one of her sons to make a date to go to a museum in the AM; in the PM she was dead. It's hard to have many regrets in a case like that. When my great-grandmother died at 92, while still living independently in her house, I wasn't upset, even though we were close and she was an absolute darling. A life well lived is really something to celebrate. It's the cut-short ones that hurt, as you well know.

I am, alas, a congenital smiler. I'll probably never get the chance to use McDiva's comeback. *iz sad, but still smiling*

That is a whoooole lot of losses, and way too close together. I'm so sorry!

Glad you guys had a good time in the PNW; I miss portland! I love a lot of things about Seattle, but Portland is home in a way Seattle isn't. And hopefully our unusually nice spring coincided with your trip!

Jealous of Ashland. Did you get to see taming of the shrew on the outdoor stage? I try to get down to the OSF every few years, and was hoping for this summer. Well, maybe this fall...

Thanks, sweetie! We're dealing pretty well, I think.

The ToS production is actually indoors at the Bowmer. There are some interesting things on the outdoor stage too, of course. We just had time for one play, though. Go! Once you're up to it!

I'm so proud. Makes me want to go back and read "Checkpoint: the Patriarchy Macros"! But then, nearly everything does!
