I’m not really that excited about vampire stories, apparently. I don’t watch The Vampire Diaries, Moonlight, Blade, Underworld, or countless other popular places where vampires can be seen. I’m not that interested in the whole “Lonely Ones” woe-is-me story. I’m not thrilled with that aspect of many superhero stories, either. I like to see people enjoying whatever advantages life - or unlife - has brought them, even when it results in them being hoist on their own petards. Maybe especially then. Because we all know that even eternal (literally!) optimists hit a wall sometimes.
This isn’t deep, but I prefer vampires who don’t act like people thought they would. I’m sure there are lots of examples of this in the things I don’t watch or read. I want to be surprised, and my patience for getting to the unexpected is short. Seriously, the main reason Darla is on my list is that she flipped expectations in the first five minutes BtVS. Her run on Angel also helped to make her marvelous, but I wouldn’t have had the patience to get there if it weren’t for her ridiculous schoolgirl predator stint on Buffy.
All that said, I’m likely to go see Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, because Johnny Depp can pretty much be counted on to do something interesting with Barnabas.
Also, does anybody know how to find that vid of Spike set to the Count’s “I Love To Count” song? Funny, naughty stuff…
ETA: It's Cybermintz's award-winning "The Song of the Count", but I still don't know how to get to something I can watch and chortle over. :(
