We're pretty excited about that school thing, too. Last year, they were invited to bring their musical production of Dames At Sea to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, so lots of the kids got to go to Scotland! She's got friends going in Creative Writing, Visual Art, Drama, Media (film school!), and Vocal or Instrumental music. Alas, not everybody made it in on the first audition, but we have our fingers crossed that some will be accepted on the next round. It's a lot of pressure for 13 and 14 year olds to get their portfolios together and prepare for this kind of thing, but I'm sometimes surprised at the focus they are able to bring. Kids are just amazing.
Thanks for commenting! I know not everybody wants to hear me brag about my kid, but as it's fandom-related, I thought I might get away with it, this time. ;-}
I cannot tell you how happy this post makes me. So many good things squished together - your fabulous kid and her fabulous friends, schools, famous people who recognise the fabulousness and share in it... so very cool and happy-making. I have a huge smile even as I type.
I feel like we are in this bubble of loosely related fabulousness, and everybody is floating along creating things and giving thumbs up to all the other creators as they float by. It's a golden age...
That's the real Jane Lynch! I'd be absolutely tongue-tied to meet her, I'd be so afraid of saying something stupid or reminding her of scenes she did in Best in Show...
