I had a wonderful weekend!
On Friday, I tutored, hung out with Mom for a while, met our friend Georgia Flarsheim who moved to Kentucky last year, and then went to Charlottesville. I had a delicious dinner with Josh, Dan (Josh's room mate), and Brad (Josh's friend). While eating on the Downtown Mall, we saw four people dressed in prisoner's uniforms with huge caricature heads of George Bush, Dick Cheny, Condaleeza Rice, and Donald Rumsfeld being led in chains down the mall. It was hilarious! Unfortunately, Josh had just gotten up to go to the bathroom when they walked by. :(
I then ushered at Urinetown the Musical, which was fabulous! If you're in Charlottesville, you should DEFINITELY see this show playing at Live Arts! Wednesday is pay what you can night - get down there!
I retired with Laura Eve to her house, where we had some excellent conversation and fun time. On Saturday, we met Jonathan at the Mud House downtown for some breakfast (hot chocolate and a hot muffin!), and then we headed to Nova to visit Jessica!
Once we arrived, we hung out at Jessica's house for a good while, and that was wonderful. Then, we headed to Tyson's Corner (which simply must have its own zipcode) to find The Cheesecake Factory. We put our names in the list, wandered through about half the mall, and went back to claim our spot. I had never been to The Cheesecake Factory before, and I was highly impressed. (I seem to be in the minority here, but I loved it! I even had my leftovers for dinner tonight.)
We went back home, and, though we had planned to attend the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at University Mall (I think that's what it's called), we decided to order The Family Stone on Pay Per View. I really liked The Family Stone despite my initial misgivings. It was funny, but it was also very real and meaningful, which I really appreciated.
On Sunday, we made a special breakfast (eggs-n-stuff + crepes) and went to Burke Lake Park before heading out. BLP was nice for Nova - who knew they had a whole lake up there? ;-)
After I dropped Laura Eve off in Charlottesville, I had a late lunch with Jonathan at Ruby Tuesday's. My turkey burger wrap was quite good, and the conversation was even better. I had a relatively uneventful ride home that was fueled by a pina colada-flavored icee. :-)
I got home on Sunday, spent an hour and a half catching up on Magic trades, then another hour or so catching up on other emails, then I talked to Jessica and went to bed.
Today was the beginning of Kayitz, and it was quite good! The scavenger hunt that I designed was intricate, varied, and quite successful - I'm really quite proud of myself! The rest of the day was fairly calm and uneventful except for when the power went out at the bowling alley! We were about to leave in twenty minutes anyway, though, so we just headed back early and played Telephone and Red Light, Green Light until all the kids were picked up.
This afternoon was fairly lazy. I did a lot of computer stuff, and I started The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which I believe I will continue to read tonight (instead of working more on D&D ... I've just spent too much time on the computer today). I took a short nap and got to eat dinner in bed since I was tired, but now I'm more awake.
Tonight has been flavored very well because the e-bay auctions for my Magic cards closed today. I had previously sold one box at the Buy Now price of $72.95; the last two sold for $71.01 and $77.00! ($9.00 shipping on all three.) I'm quite pleased overall with the return from them, and I'm looking forward to actually seeing the fruits of my victory!
So, that's my update for now. The rest of the week will mostly be Kayitz-related, but I'll let you know if anything particularly interesting happens!
