[Over on Route 32/33 there is a Rhyme and her little Teddiursa fighting some pokemon. What's so special about this you ask? Well right after destroying yet another pokemon, Teddiursa begins to glow and change. Cue Evolution theme.

At the end of the evolution there is a terrifying Roar and where the once adorable bear cub was now, stands a giant

[And suddenly, something very small and young and innocent looking is now older, taller, and grizzlier, if you will. There's something a little... unsettling about that.]

What a drastic change!

[Ursaring is totally a giant teddy bear though.]
It is a bit sudden for Teddiursa to change into a fully grown bear. But it makes some sense at least.

Yes, her grown-up self doesn't look all that different. I wonder if her personality "aged" as well?

It might have, she doesn't seem to have shown much of a difference though.

[Nah, the reason is a little more personal than that.]

That's a relief, I admit I was a little worried this "evolution" might result in something like that.

I guess the only thing that's changed about them is their appearance and strength then.

She certainly does look stronger. Do you think she likes her new form?

She might, she certainly hasn't shown that she dislikes it. Probably just getting used to it right now though.

[Oh, let's just say there is something uncomfortably familiar about looking a great deal older than you really are.]

I'd imagine so, yes. It's amazing how quickly they can adapt to such a huge change.

[Ah. I see your point.]

They might have been expecting it or something who knows?
[Because obviously the pokemon think just as much as they do.]

Considering they can decide whether or not they want to evolve on their own, that sounds about right.

[Hey, his Pokemon had to teach him how to use his own Pokegear. It may be a safer bet than you'd think.]

Kind of makes me wonder how many want to evolve or not.

[Obviously the pokemon are smarter than humans. So why haven't they taken over.]

It's really interesting, isn't it? Most of them seem to want to become stronger and evolution can certainly provide that, but some of them decide they don't need to, or prefer their smaller form. Their intelligence is far greater than that of the monsters back home.

No they're talking using telepathy

They're certainly smarter than the animals back home in Shibuya. I wonder how they became so smart though, were they just born smart or did something happen?

That must be it. How silly of me not to realize.

Perhaps it's because of how closely bonded they are with humans here. Then again, I could be giving humanity too much credit; it's possible they were simply born this intelligent.
