The Fat Lady Has Not Yet Sung

If you think it's over, it isn't. stewardess tells us a very, very plausible reason for the purge.

The censorship is not over, and if LJ does go public, it will never be the haven it was in its days before SixApart.

cordelia_v suggests it might be time for fandom to migrate. I think so, too. What do you think? PLEASE pimp this poll far and wide!

JournalFen isn't "not free".

I'm very much a lurker these days, but I hope fandom stays. As someone else pointed out we/you are part of the product. If recognized and accepted that could just possible end up being a plus leaving fandom with a safer home than it's ever had before.

If fandom does leave, then I think it will be an organic shift as it ws to LJ. i don't think the answer will be constructed from polls results, although it's interesting to see what people think at the moment.

I thought you had to pay for an account there -- is that not the case?

No, you just have to be invited by a paying member, I believe.

Which makes it Not Free for the vast majority of the population.

No, though it's ture that it's a little bit more difficult to get an account than it once was. Users used to be able to give out codes as on LJ, but now account creation is switched on infrequently (watch the system account for announcements). Otherwise it's possible to get an account through a paid user, here, I believe.

As I say, it's not "not free". It's just that free involves a few hoops.

Oh, and if you know a paid user, you can ask them to vouch for you and get an account that way.

Thank you! It's good to know. Probably it's a good idea for them to do it that way so they can guard against server overload.

How does one vouch for someone to get them an account? I've got one and would be more than willing to help others create accounts if I knew how :)

That said, I'm staying on LJ for the foreseeable future, I have no plans to move.

I'm not a paid JF user myself (because they prefer paypal payments and I don't have a paypal account), so I've never tested the process, but I believe that if you're a paid JF user all you can make a request through the Paid Journal Support page. I got this information from the anon_no_more community's user info page. They like some sort of assurance that it's for legitimate fandom reasons :o)
