I somehow managed to read 54 files this weekend. 54! What is really amazing is that I managed to finished these files by 4:30pm this afternoon. Consequently, I experienced something a bit foreign to me this time of year: free time. I almost didn't know what to do with myself. I was nearly paralyzed by the possibilites. A movie? Dinner? Happy hour? The gym? Ultimately, I made some calls and had one of the loveliest Sunday evenings in recent memory.
Sushi, gelato, a walk in the park blocks. And it wasn't even a date! Just three great friends and some time in the city. It's almost like I had a real weekend. Portents of things to come as file reading begins to wind down. It's not quite dead yet, but the beast can't keep up the fight much longer. We're mailing decisions this week and next.
In less than stellar news, I found out that Mr. Third Gear may be shifting to first gear on me. Turns out while I was buried beneath SAT scores and angsty teenage poetry, he started dating somebody. He was very up front with me, which as we all know, I greatly appreciate. It doesn't surprise me in the least, nor does it upset me. Mr. Thrid Gear is quite a catch. I'm just not playing catch at the moment. My game is dodgeball these days.
I'm upset only in that I might actually have to start dating again instead of relying on him for companionship of that sort. That prospect doesn't at all excite me. Each time I try and get myself excited about dating in this city, I'm just let down again. Even when the prospects seem good, something about the chemistry is off. But before I go down that oft-trodden diatribe, I'll stop.
We had a good run and I am greatful for it. I'll just have to occupy myself some other way.
I've always wanted to learn to rock climb.
