What 5 albums are essential to living?
Be sure to include the:
- Title of the album
- Artists
- Key Tracks
It doesn't have to be in any specific order, just be sure to have your top 5.
1) 2:35pm- Calvin Richardson
Great voice, writing and feel to his 2nd album.
I Cannot resist songs like, "Don't Keep On Pushin'" (Sam Cooke feel), "Shes Got the Love" (Saddiq produced), "More Than A Woman" (Not as hot as the version with Angie Stone), "Got Me High" (Catchy melody, nice appearance by Slum Village), "Cross My Heart" (Stevie Wonder feel)
2) Reasonable Doubt- Jay-Z
Jay-Z's first LP classic punch lines-- rich songs and great production. Lovin' "Can't Knock the Hustle" (Mary J. Blige is killin' it), "Politics as Usual" (THIS IS HOW WE DO....), "Ain't No..." (Foxy at her finest aside from being with The Firm), "Brooklyn's Finest" (With Biggy... on top of the game), "I'm Feelin' It" (catchy ass hook)
3) Quality- Talib Kweli
Kweli pushes the social envelope... and Kanye provided one of the HOTTEST beats.
"Get By" (We survivalists turned to consumers, just to get by...), "Stand to the Side" (inversion between write and right is ill), "Joy" (Mos and Talib reminscent of Black Star), "The Proud" (..!..), "Keynote Speaker" (Dave Chapelle..... is a genuis lol)
4) Phrenology- The Roots
Different on every level-- throwback to classic hip-hop exploring the art of music. ?uestlove I want to have your talented babies haha
"The Seed 2.0" (Vintage rock sound kudos to Cody Chestnut), "Thought At Work" (Fuck gettin' money 4real get freedom), "Quills" (Bass line is beauty), "Bridges" (inspiration), "Pussy Galore" (story of a female using her sexuality-- and losing it all... satire of america's sex obsession)
5) Legend- Bob Marley
Who doesn't have this on a list? Classic CD that can easily be listend to through and through.
"Is This Love" (I wanna love ya.. and treat ya right), "No Woman No Cry" (organ is classic), "Buffalo Soldier" (A rasta's "Cantaberry Tales"), "Stir It Up" (worthy of a beach and bloody mary), "Easy Skanking" (a stoner's classic), "Waiting In Vein" (Beautifully heartbreaking), "Redemtion Song" (Epitome of lyrical), "Satisfy My Soul" (You... satisfy my soul), "Exodus" (History of jah people), "Jamming" (who DOESN'T know this one?!)
