So, about two years ago, ModCloth got this adorable new Bernie Dexter dress. They called it "Space Mod-ity" and it was over $100.
I loved it. I adored it. I went to the website every few days or so just to admire it and its unobtainable price.
I can't help it. I just refuse to spend $100 or higher on a dress that isn't intended for the opera. Generally, I peak at $40-$60 for a dress, and $60 makes me feel guilty.
Well, I lived in hope that it would go on sale, and then it did! Barely. I hemmed and hawed for a few days. Was $98 really worth it?
Then it was reduced again! I rushed to the website to find - it was sold out in my size. I could get the smallest size, only, at the super-low price.
I cried. I stalked the dress. I went on ebay. I went to Bernie Dexter's website. NO ONE had the dress in my size. I cursed myself for not getting it at $98. I looked up the fabric for the dress and considered making one. I looked at patterns. The fabric was designer, not available for less than $40 a yard. I looked for similar prints. I never found something quite right and gave up.
Then, just last week, ages since I stopped trolling eBay every day for the dress, I got an alert! (Thank you, ebay alerts!) Someone had the dress. In Large. For $75.
