Happy St Nicolas Day. This statue of the saint is in the church in La Voulte-sur-Rhone, France.
There's a definite divide in church architecture about half way down France. In the northern half of the country it's all Gothic style, tall buildings with steep slate roofs, large windows and lots of different colours. In the south it's low buildings with shallow red tiled roofs and fewer, smaller windows. And the southern churches cover their statues in gold leaf, not like the painted statues of the north.
