 When I arrived at the (as it was then) University of Wales, Aberystwyth the entire inbound data connection was 34 megabit.

Some very clever caching made this work very well all things considered for the users.  I certainly was always fairly impressed with what I got.  The upgrade, later in my time there, to 155mbit over microwave (initially somewhat problematic due to mast alignment issues) was welcome by then, but even so, it was still impressive they managed as long as they did with 34.

My house now has 14, and thats just ADSL 2, not FTTC.  Don't know when that will roll out here, but its still a strange feeling to know that I have to my house half of what UWA was managing on in the late 90's.

Of course, the fact the average website now feel the need to be several meg and contain video, well, thats another story!
