Hello, folks. It's been a little while, hasn't it? Time and budget restrictions and all. Sometimes it's hard to find the room and motivation to even write about the local food scene, let alone support it. But there's one place I went to recently, so let's do it.
A former coworker told me he was now working at Boston's Fish House in Tivoli Village. Admittedly, I went more to say hi to him, as I hadn't heard of this place. It's a bit of a franchise, with a couple locations in Florida. But if you like New England-style seafood, it's worth checking out, methinks.
Maybe there's not a whole lot of New England in the calamari. Actually, there are two calamari appetizers -- I thought I'd ordered the classic fried version, but I got the sweet chili recipe. The squid was fine, served in a sweet-and-sour sauce. My real issue was with the warm, stone-like plate which heated the greens, thus losing a needed warm-cold contrast.
One of my favorite fishes is Chilean seabass, with its sweet, falling apart meat. Here it's served with a coconut crust, topped with a fried banana, and in a rum-honey sauce. A potential sweetness overload, like a Care Bears smoothie, but I really liked it. No need for dessert after this one.
Tivoli Village has long been a restaurant graveyard, but maybe it's finally turning around. Al Solito Posto looks to be a much-needed anchor, and its sister restaurant Ada's will be my next dining destination. Just for stabilty, and my friend's sake, I hope Boston's Fish House sticks around.
(Okay, I really wanted to post this because "Care Bears smoothie" is too good to not use.)
