Unusual Houses of the World - Mushroom House

Feb 28, 2014 10:11

The world is full of wonders and there is nothing on this planet that could set up limits for humans creativity! The featured unusual house of the world for this week is Mushroom House located in Cincinnati, OH. I would totally reside in there with my family. How about you?

This amazing home was built between 1992 and 2006 by an architect Terry Brown and was used as architect's secondary residence till 2008. When Terry Brown bought it in 1989 it was just an ordinary looking house. Then he transformed it into its current look. Brown was a professor of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati. His students helped with the redevelopment of the house.

Also known as a Tree House, this unusual building is located in Hyde Park, neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The exact address is 3331 Erie Avenue, Cincinnati, OH.

The exterior of Mushroom House resembles tree bark, with windows made of bright stained glass and an orange spiral staircase. Inside are domed ceilings, crescent windows, hand-carved wood walls, and an iron steam-punk floor etching.

In Spring 2012, Mushroom House was put on the market for just $349 000. Built into the hillside / treetops, this one-story home is 1,200 square feet and features 6 rooms, 1 Bed / 1 Bath.

The architect Leslie Clark who both studied with and worked for Terry Brown summed up the man's architectural ideology this way:
“Terry believed it was an architect’s responsibility to invent solutions for clients that they didn't know were possible, to transform their ideas of what a house could be. Somehow, he made it seem simple to embody the movement of music and nature within a built environment."

Inside the Mushroom

I wonder, what would be the kitchen called when it is located inside the mushroom? Mash-room perhaps?
