Unusual Houses of the World - Snail House

Jan 03, 2014 13:17

I wonder whether the time stops or really slows down inside this amazing house!

Currently uninhabited, Snail House is located in Sofia, Bulgaria, was designed and built by Simeon Simeonov. As some funny character noticed - the house was indeed built at a "snail-pace". It took almost 10 years to complete and the whimsical building finally opened it's doors to the public in 2009.

It is a five-story family house in the form of funny colorful snail, with horns on its head and butterflies on the back. Internal design combines ancient antique furniture from owner's ancestors with funny heating radiators in the form of a frog, a ladybug or pumpkin. The House has already become one of the most popular attractions in Sofia.

The front door is painted like the ‘mouth’ of the snail.

Built from concrete that is four times lighter than water, this smart structure that has no sharp edges, is also extremely energy efficient. It is also claimed that there was not a single brick used in construction.

Future plans for this building include using it as a school for the gifted or, just keeping it as a tourist destination. But  the fun doesn't just stop here! There are rumors that encouraged by the success of his unusual structure, the architect is planning on introducing a giant turtle and dinosaur house to the neighborhood.
