Pinterest vs Instagram, the later wins for me

I have 2 IT-crazy people at home. One is 12 and another one is 40. And when it comes to arguing about applications, software and computer games you just can never know which one would win.

I had Pinterest installed on my phone by the older one and was urged to use it. Then, sure enough, my 12-year old says: "Yew, Pinterest is for old dudes!" and next morning I discover a new application on the screen.

What can I say? It won my heart instantly. Pinterest just wasn't interactive enough. Instagram calls itself a “fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family.” You take a photo with your phone, choose a filter to change the image and then share with your friends in a feed. You can also add comments, simultaneously share it on Facebook and Twitter.

But the feature i like the most is editing your photographs, resizing, changing the color patterns. I am a bit of a perfectionist and usually it takes me hours to get my photographs to the stage i like them and would post them. This cute app does not give me a chance to play with the picture for that long.

I was at the open house today - took this photo, shared via Instagram. The cool part is that this picture sharing is instant, real time.

When I got home after the open house, had to listen for good half an hour to "I told you - I told you". Now, could someone explain, how 12-year old has over 300 followers on Instagram within 2 month and with 5 pictures?
