"Charlie! Ah, yes, I know, but this is a little much."

Sirens are never super appealing, to any Reynolds.

"I suggest you take the banner down ASAP then. Unless you want everyone to make your day overstuffed with greetings?" Which she may or may not like.

"Bar isn't going to let me."

Sallie's eyes then glaze over ever so slightly, and one corner of her mouth lifts.

"For the next hour. It's her form of compromise."

"I guess you can't go and hide, either?" He steps closer. "Can I at least wish you a happy birthday?"

"Absolutely you can."

Sallie may approve of Charlie doing so. Just a little.

"I don't actually have a problem with birthdays, even my own. It was just a low priority."

Birthdays call for hugs. And small kisses on the cheek.

"I'm usually the one baking anything," is the first response that Sallie actually manages to get to, before Charlie gets a little of a sidelong glance.

"What are you up to today?"

"Not much in the way of plans. Maybe a jog.

"Want someone to fend off the wellwishers?"

"No, they're fine."

Oh gou shi, now she has to say something.

"Do you want to do something?"

He smiles. "Yes. That would be nice. A walk? A ride?"

"Well. I was actually thinking...you could come to my house."

Quickly: "Dead folk've been comin' to my house forever; you'll be fine since we'd only be going for a little bit? And you'd get to see my part of the 'verse."

"I was there. For Christmas." He would make a joke about her getting old and forgetful, but sometimes his filters click in. "But we didn't go outside. And I would love to see an alien sun."

Sallie's eyebrows furrow slightly, leaning in across the countertop.

"We were in my apartment here. Not Shadow. You feelin' alright?"
