Skouris' expression her first day home never changed, and when Sallie thanks him for it she calls him Peter

"Evening." Simple, smooth and designed not to surprise.

Even if sudden!not-customer is still quite sudden,
at least his demeanor is calm and his focus specific?

"Wèi," Sallie returns from behind the bar before Mike can see her working.

She is far grumpier-sounding than usual.

Edward won't tell. For now.

He'll lean his chin on two fingers.
"How long aren't you supposed to be working?"

"Hmm?"

As though Sallie didn't completely understand the question.

Someone is making Jasper grumpy. The homework before him gets shoved aside with distaste and he looks around with a contemptuous glance for the perpetrator when his gaze lands on Sallie.

He clears his throat.

"Ma'am."

"Jasper."

Sallie harrumphs at the glasses that she can't wash; the waitrat next to her tries to be helpful and is met with a scowl.

She squints her eyes shut hard, forcing herself to exhale to try and relax.

Jasper, being brave in the face of grumpy (and most certainly braver than the waitrat) with his own mood having taken a dip, finds his way around the bar and snatches up the glass for washing before any protests can be uttered.

"What happened?"

He obviously means the cast.

"Surgery. Wrist replacement, which if you weren't already out of that particular equation I'd tell you to avoid it at all costs."

She continues making faces for a couple seconds at Jasper but moves on rather quickly. "Was I botherin' you?"

"Oh, God, we are so completely useless the pair of us, aren't we."

Bar is complaining in both their heads now about Sallie's commentary, but Sallie's expression of aggravation doesn't change.

"How long til you're goin' to pop, do you think?"

Maybe I can rip my cast off.

Inara was sipping tea. Emphasis on was.

Now she's pointing at Sallie's wrist going :O

"Shut your mouth, child; a fly'll land in there."

[makesmeatease]

"Sallie." Inara scowls but shuts her mouth. "What happened to your wrist?"

[realmrsreynolds]

"Surgery."

Sallie won't lie to Inara.

She will just...be taciturn.

Malcolm had to learn it from someone.

He's sitting at a table off to the side, poring over John's journal. The movement of the door opening catches his eye, and Sam glances up, then grins.

"Hey, Sal--"

The greeting breaks off as he spots the cast. Sam's on his feet and moving so fast that he knocks over the chair he was sitting in, which gets left right where it falls.

(He does manage to snatch up the journal first, but it's a near thing.)

"What happened?"

Samuel might be more difficult to manage than Malcolm.

"Hi, Sam," Sallie offers, plastered smile and her un-cast wrist bending upward to reach for the tall man's shoulder. "Ain't seen you around for a bit."

Immediately: "I'm fine."

"Yeah, I know, it's been a while--"

It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but it's there all the same. For an instant, as Sam reaches out to touch the cast she's wearing, he looks somehow younger... and scared.

"You're sure you're okay?"

[realmrsreynolds]

"Yes, baobei. Just had surgery. I'm supposed to heal up fine, so long as I obey my marching orders."

Sallie wrinkles her nose at the idea in general. She rotates the stiff cast from palm-up to palm-down.

"No pain even. Promise."
