Book the Eighty-Fourth to Book the Eighty-Ninth

Dec 31, 2009 19:36

Okay, so . . . procrastination being my closest friend, as always, I'm about 15 books behind on reviews for the year, and I don't really feel like writing them, so . . . I'm not going to. I'll list them all here, with the usual starter information, but I won't get into my thoughts on each specifically, unless you ask me to go into more detail on one or another of them.

Book the Eighty-Fourth
Title: Dealing with Dragons
Author: Patricia C Wrede
Page Count: 212
Status: Reread
Synopsis: Take one bored Princess. Make her the seventh daughter in a very proper royal family. Have her run away. Add one powerful, fascinating, dangerous dragon. The Princess Cimorene has never met anyone (or anything) like the dragon Kazul. But then, she's never met a witch, a jinn, a death-dealing talking bird, or a stone prince either. Princess Cimorene ran away to find some excitement. She's about to . . .

Book the Eighty-Fifth
Title: Searching for Dragons
Author: Patricia C Wrede
Page Count: 242
Status: Reread
Synopsis: The case: an un-ordinary king, an extraordinary princess, a couple of kooky giants, an overzealous magician, a loyal and helpful witch, and a host of evil and dangerous wizards.
The instruments: a broken-down magic carpet, a leaking magical sword, and a few buckets of soapy lemon water.
The problem: dragon-napping and magic-stealing.
And so the story begins, one fine day while King Mendenbar is taking a casual stroll through the Enchanted Forest . . .

Book the Eighty-Sixth
Title: Calling on Dragons
Author: Patricia Wrede
Page Count: 244
Status: Reread
Synopsis: They're back! Except Princess Cimorene is now Queen Cimorene of the Enchanted Forest and she is on a very important mission with Kazul the dragon king, Morwen the witch, Telemain the magician, two cats, and a blue, flying donkey-rabbit named Killer. It's not going to be easy. The wizads have become very smart (sort of) and have found a way to capture the most powerful source of magic in the Enchanted Forest -- King Mendenbar's sword. If the sword is not returned to the forest in due time, the forest will begin to die. And you can bet your last dragon scale that Cimorene won't stand for that!

Book the Eighty-Seventh
Title: Talking to Dragons
Author: Patricia Wrede
Page Count: 255
Status: reread
Synopsis: Daystar never thought he'd be walking through the Enchanted Forest with a magic sword, a fire-witch, and a baby dragon. He never dreamed his mother, Cimorene, would tell him to leave their home and not to return until his "task" was complete. Or that he alone held the pwoer to release King Mendenbar and the Enchanted Forest from the wizards' evil spell. He doesn't even know who King Mendenbar is. But Daystar learns quickly, and that's good, because he's about to encounter magic and wizards and dragons. A deadly combination . . .

Book the Eighty-Eighth
Title: Book of Enchantments
Author: Patricia Wrede
Page Count: 234
Status: Reread
Synopsis: In this book, you will find magic previously untold. Cats who can talk . . . and unicorns who won’t listen. Roses of prophecy . . . and the sixty-two curses of Caliph Arenschadd. Cruel sisters . . . and unexpected friends (Not to mention Queen Cimorene, King Mendenbar, and the Frying Pan of Doom).
Open the Book of Enchantments at your own risk, and prepare to face the magic.

Book the Eighty-Ninth
Title: The Autobiography of Santa Claus
Author: Jeff Guinn
Page Count: 280
Status: Reread
Synopsis: For anyone who has ever wondered, you're right to believe in Santa Claus! In this book, Santa shares his story with readers for the first time. Nicholas (his real name) was born in the Middle Eastern country of Lycia to wealthy parents who died while he was young. The kind people of Lycia taught him the lessons of goodness and generosity, which he began to practice as a child by sharing his wealth with those in need. As a young man, Nicholas realized that his generosity had bestowed upon him special abilities to distribute his presents to deserving children everywhere. And so it was that Santa broadened his gift-giving and spread his message to many others who shared his belief in the goodness of giving.
