During the summer months, I've taken to taking cold showers. What with the temperatures being warmer (because it's the summer), the cold water hitting my body ranges from tolerable to refreshing, depending on how the air temperature is. Additionally, I normally shower after I've completed a run, so I'm sweaty and feel hotter anyway, so I'm seeking the quick cool down. That said, it can still be a mild adjustment as the Bay Area doesn't get all that hot in the summer, so having that initial blast of cold water can be a brief shock.
I like the colder months. I'll easily say winter is my favorite season, and I don't fret the cold weather like most people and can handle it quite well, so it only seems natural. Of course, California winters are like early autumns in certain parts of the country, so winters aren't unbearably dreadful anyway. But I've also lived a good number of years in New England, and the winters there are a different beast, and I loved that, so for me to say I like winters isn't a surprise. All this said, summers are nice. As much as I may be able to continue wearing T-shirt and shorts in the winter and still tolerate it, it's actually warranted in the summer. And the vibe and feeling during the summer is incomparable.
Over the past week here, a fall chill has begun to creep in, and I can feel the summer slipping into autumn. I've had to throw on a quarter-zip pullover in the morning a couple of days during this past week, so I can feel it getting colder. And with the mercury in thermometers slowly trending downward, I've transitioned back to taking hot showers.
When I was taking one the other day, it felt so relaxing. As much as it may be refreshing to have cold water run down your body when it's really hot, that feeling of having hot water envelope you while the outside world is significantly cooler is such a good feeling. I suppose as much as I like the cold weather, one of my favorite feelings is taking a hot shower coming in from a cold day.
