"The book," Junmyeon points out after a moment of silence, "You're holding it upside down."

Jongin immediately flushes and laughs, noticing the older boy's look of both apprehension and incredulity.

"Oh, right." God, you're so stupid.

In the corner of his peripheral Junmyeon can spot Jongin's friends, Oh Sehun blatantly staring in their direction with a strange expression on his face and he can't shake the uneasy feeling settling in his chest. He shivers involuntarily and adjusts his glasses about to slip from the bridge of his nose.

Jongin looks up, watching this movement with a small smile. "You look cute with glasses," he says simply, because Junmyeon really does look adorable with those thick-rimmed frames too big for his face, brown and beige colored and it reminds Jongin of his grandfather's spectacles.

"Excuse me?" is Junmyeon's dumb reply. There's a faint blush to his cheeks anyways and Jongin opens his mouth slowly before closing it.

"I-I think your glasses are cute- I mean you look cute in them. Yeah..."

Junmyeon shrugs his mustard-colored cardigan back over his shoulder and hums, "Thanks, I guess."

They sit there in an awkward kind of silence as students file out of the library in groups, the click of the ceiling lights alerting them to the time. All of Jongin's gorgeous and popular friend's stand to leave, Junmyeon just barely catching one of them mention how boring that was and other comments about his otherwise uninteresting personality and he sulks, also standing to leave.

Before Jongin can even open his mouth Junmyeon stops him.

"Listen, I bet this is some really funny joke, Jongin, but I'm sure you have better things to do than spend your Thursdays sitting and watching me do nothing for the amusement of your friends. I'm sure they're getting tired of your humor. Why don't you go do fun things that good looking and popular people do like, I don't know, party or something?" He runs a hand through his hair, exhausted and feels just a slight pang in his gut at Jongin's troubled look.

Jongin in turn notices Junmyeon's dark circles, the worn out collar of his dress shirt and he sighs. "M-Maybe we can do something else then? I won't bring my friends next time I promise."

That statement takes the older boy by surprise. "You mean you actually want to spend time with me?" The look on Jongin's face is so sincere and he briefly considers that maybe this isn't some cruel joke. Junmyeon's heart beats wildly outside of his control as Jongin nods, picking up Junmyeon's bag for him as they walk out.

"Really, I'm just awkward, you know? Just because I'm hot or whatever doesn't mean I'm suave by default," the younger boy laughs uneasily, looking down at Junmyeon next to him. He's so beautiful, he thinks, side profile lit up by the soft glow of the street lamps as they walk back to their dorm. "I promise it's not a joke."

Junmyeon stops in front of his door, taking his book bag from Jongin's arm and he looks down, still unsure. "Then why do you bring your friends?"

"Uh, back up? Like I said, I'm kind of a mess around the people I really like." Jongin shrugs and he's glad that Junmyeon at least doesn't look reluctant.

It's quiet for a few moments as the short boy sorts out his thoughts, finally settling on, "Why does someone like you, like someone like me?"

Jongin takes in the other boy's appearance, khakis and worn running shoes, a baby blue dress shirt and the contrasting yellow cardigan. Junmyeon's a literature major and Jongin is in the theatre program and even though they have some classes together, Jongin's destined to be the star while Junmyeon writes the words for the actor's script.

But Jongin's seen the look on Junmyeon's face as he reads his favorite books, how passionately he talks about his pieces and beloved authors and he's read the articles Junmyeon's submitted to the student newspaper and every time he gets lost in the words on the page, like he's really inside the worlds the older boy can create in his mind.

"Because I want someone like me to be someone like you. I don't think you know how amazing you are. Yeah, I'm good looking or whatever but I admire what's inside you know?" Jongin confesses, avoiding Junmyeon's look of surprise. He takes a deep breath and continues. "I'd love to be inside those fantasies of yours."

Junmyeon snorts and can't help the bubbling laughter that erupts into howling, pointing at Jongin's bright red face, sputtering something about how that wasn't what he meant.

"S-See, this is what I get for trying to be poetic," the younger boy mutters once Junmyeon's chuckling dies down.

"How about dinner?" Junmyeon asks, smilingly softly up at Jongin, still trying to hold back a giggle. "And trust me, I have a twisted mind. Not sure you really want in on that."

It's Jongin's turn to laugh, and he grabs Junmyeon's hands --they're softer than he expected-- and he squeezes tighter when the older boy looks up expectantly. "Tomorrow at the diner near the auditorium? eight o'clock? I'll  pay."

"Yeah," he answers with a innocent but sincere smile. It might feel too good to be true but Junmyeon's willing to take a chance.
