Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone. You know, there's a porn store for Android, you can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That's a place we don't want to go, so we're not going to go there", Steve Jobs
Slashdot goes on to note, "Apps such as Playboy's and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition are still available on the App Store, however, as they come from 'more reputable companies"
Now, some of you have heard me rant about Apple censoring a dictionary that contained the F bomb in it (not that you could find it by accident, mind you, you had to know the word to look it up).
But I get it. Fine, Babyshaker made you guys look like a bunch of idiots. And you know what, you were.
I just don't like the idea that Apple is censoring apps based on the 'morality' of it's content. I don't think you can make an intelligent argument that SI's swimsuit issue is in no way exploitation or objectification of women.
And that's one reason I'm not thrilled about jumping on the iWhatever bandwagon. I don't like the idea that Steve Jobs is making moral decisions on what I can see.
You know what, you want to help me protect my kids? Fine, give me a rating system and let me block apps based on rating.
Or, and here's a crazy idea, I could be an actual PARENT and stay involved with the things my kid does, and you can stay the F out of that relationship.
