So - I told you that I loved this, right? Many many times? Coz I did.
I love that Ellie hates Christmas (it's such a Toby thing to do that I can't help loving her for it) and more, than she recoils from the enforced gaiety and she doesn't know how to be at a party and be comfortable. (Ellie is me.) And I love that Andy matches her, is uncomfortable with the pretense and excess of Christmas. And it's actually something I wouldn't have thought to write in her - almost as a reaction to years of living with Toby's hatred, I'd have had her be involved and spirited, CJ-esque. But I like your way, it works.
Instead there is candlelight, slim cream slivers of wax, smooth in contrast to the jagged pine needles, elegant simplicity.

You are my Ellie. I am a little Ellie, but I try to be Andy/Bird but I think thats why we get her. And I think Andy was an Ellie when she was younger, before she found her focus. And Toby. You'd never guess I hate Christmas, would you...for the excess.
It fits her - the smoothness, the feminine sexiness of candles she can be so elegant...on a good day, when she's brushed her hair and things. I have in my head an image of the Christmas tree from my other family, which had thin candles in silver holders and was so pretty and simple ( ... )
