A little while ago Ian and I traveled about an hour north of Sacramento to shoot the wedding of two of our best friends. Ian met Laura and Dan over two years ago, when the three of them worked as TV editors at World of Wonder. Laura and Dan did the video for our wedding a few months ago, and we were super excited for their weekend adventure, which happened to fall on Laura's birthday. Laura and Dan chose
Camp Augusta, outside of Nevada City, for it's natural feel and gorgeous setting. That morning, the camp opened its rope swing and zip line. While the younger guests got into the action, friends and family pitched in to make the wedding a success.
The cake bakers flew from Ohio to create their delicious vanilla and buttercream confection. They even hid a special birthday wish for Laura under the cake topper. Other friends created the bouquets and centerpieces from fresh, locally grown flowers. Laura's cousin did her make up, and her maid of honor Katie did her hair.
Laura's dress was also a hand-made work of art. The waistband and trim were taken from her mother's wedding dress, and a friend designed the tiered 100% organic hemp dress. Dan himself looked quite dapper in a checkered 70s jacket which he hunted down on the web, and wool tuxedo pants.
The ceremony itself was incredibly personal and touching, conducted by a good friend. Two other friends read specially-penned poems, and Dan's brother sang a moving song. It was a celebration of life and love unlike any else we have seen. Later the party kicked off with an organic dinner. A DJ friend got guests onto the dance floor, and even the babies shook their groove things. To end the night: sitting by the campfire, and later, waiting for the sun to come up.
Congratulations you guys!
