Sicko Movie Review

So I got a sneak peek of Sicko while it resided at Google Video.

Even a liberal like myself was embarrassed to admit I could believe Michael Moore's past movies.  He would point out one great piece of evidence - then go off on a 30 minute tangent trying to catch the bad guy on camera admitting to the evidence. Yeah, that'll work.  Plainly speaking, he was a jerk about it.  I encourage and applaud any effort to bring the spot light to industries and governments that operate with little over site, but there are much more tactful ways of doing it.

With "Sicko", I think he may have learned from his past mistakes. (Can you call them mistakes, he is rich ... however, he sure does have a lot of enemies.)

Examining the Unites States health care industry through the eyes of those who have died, suffered, or are suffering aims for the audiences' heart.  A tactic not tried by Moore, he surprisingly, skillfully weaves through the lives of people who have been denied treatment because of loopholes and flaws in our healthcare system.  Sure, the evidence is anecdotal, but it is still quite convincing.  Most refreshingly, he does this mostly from behind the camera - sure, he is in a few scenes - most notably the already well known trip to Cuba - but he actually doesn't come off as a jerk.  The Cuban trip even has a little humor for the friends at Homeland Security.  His light handed touch might actually make this movie more palatable to a larger number of people - which of course is the ultimate goal.

Our health care industry is indeed sick - one can hope Moore's work helps bring along some much needed reform....I'm an optimist!

Go check it out when it comes out in theaters, it'll be worth the price of a ticket.
