❦ In depth:
Personality: Kairi is a fairly mellow lass, friendly, chipper, and kind. She prefers to see the good in life, though is well aware it isn't all daisies and sunshine. She can be reserved at times, preferring to keep to herself and just ruminate, especially when things awry or when there’s inner confusion. However, when it comes to her close friends, particularly Sora and Riku, she’s there for them 100% during the difficult times.
She does have a bit of a stubborn streak, from simply vowing not to go back to the island until Sora and Riku both return home, to breaking any rules or risking her own safety if her friends are in danger. That’s not to say she cant be discouraged, quite the contrary. She can be, though when she is, she desperately clings to hope, no matter how foolish. Even if it's the equivolent of lying to herself, it’s the only way she can deal with it without completely falling apart.
Her friends are her life; having no memories of those who were part of her early childhood, she clung to Sora and Riku, the boys being both enormous entities in her heart. She opens up to them much easier than she would a "normal friend" or an adult. She also shows her more mischievous side to them more so than anyone else, though it does rear it’s ugly head more the closer she becomes with others.
She’s not without a sense of humor, though. Whilst Sora was always the more easy-going and happy-go-lucky of the three, Kairi has found certain things that tickle her fancy. She laughs easily at silly antics, and has the uncanny ability to eventually find joy no matter where she goes. However, she’s also a lot more reserved than Sora, though nowhere near as much as Riku. She’s the middle ground for the two of them, when compared.
She’s very idealistic, hopeful, and naïve, though she is by no means stupid. She truly believes in there being good and evil, and that the former will always overcome the latter, even though she knows reality doesn’t often work that way.
Kairi is big on her close friendships; should they break, she would too. Betrayal is not something she would ever be able to deal with easily.
Canon Background:
http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Kairi AU Background: Kairi grew up in Radiant Gardens, raised by the lone hand of her grandmother; it was a secluded place, really, with lovely people and even lovelier landscape. Unfortunately, she would not remember either, having mysteriously washed onshore Destiny Islands at a young age, her only memories intact being that of her name and one of her grandmother’s stories.
From there, the mayor took her under his wing, signing the necessary paperwork and becoming her legal guardian. Though, her "home" wasn't with him; it was always anywhere she went, so long as the two boys she befriended, Riku and Sora, were with her (after all, home is where the heart is). The three were inseparable for their childhood years; no matter how many other friends they made, they always gravitated back towards each other, like the three caballeros of Destiny Islands. Their favorite place? A small island off the coast. They spent their summers playing there, racing, swimming, fishing, camping... you name it. But as the three grew older, Kairi’s mysterious past gave way to a new idea, a new adventure, far from the mundane day dreaming and schooling that had become ritualistic in their lives; not to mention far away from the Islands, whose culture preferred to stay far away from the business of the rest of the world. The three would build a craft and sail to her homeland, to see what was really there. How far they would make it, and whether they'd be able to find it, they didn't know. But that was all part of the fun, right?
Unfortunately, the night before they were to depart, a horrid storm hit Destiny Islands. Kairi hadn’t been able to sneak out to check on the craft, still stationed at the "play" island. The Mayor had caught her hastily tiptoeing to the back door, and she had no choice but to stay put and watch the storm rage from inside.
That’s when the Strangelings first came. Horrid and dark creautres, mysterious and terrifying. But just as quickly as they arrived, they vanished without a trace, along with the storm and a handful of people. Much to Kairi’s horror, Riku and Sora were among the numbers of the missing. Heartbroken, she spent her days searching for them; day after day, week after week. Even when the rest of the islanders gave up, officially deeming the boys lost to the Mist forever, she looked. But to no avail. Feeling utterly hopeless, she returned home one night to a letter ---an invitation to Disney Academy. The offer that they might be able to find a way to stop the Mist renewed her determination; after all, stopping the Mist might entail bringing the people lost to it back... might entail bringing Sora and Riku back. She left the very next morning.
Appearance: Kairi isn't a terribly tall girl for her age; in fact, she hovers somewhere below the average height. However, she is quite fit from spending all those years running around and playing with the boys; there isn't too much cushion on this girl. She's comfortable in her own skin, even as her body starts top change and blossom (so far, at least), and isn't afraid to wear shorter skirts or show off her upper arms and legs. Quite used to the school uniform from her last place of education, she has no problems wearing hers from sunrise to sundown.
Her face, however, is still quite childish and round; in addition to her semi-boyish figure, it can be deduced that she's a late bloomer finally starting to bud. Her hair a natually dark red, she prefers to wear it down, and keep it styled trendily with choppy bands and ends. In addition to cerulian blue eyes, and her skin a healthy peach; she's got quite a lovely combination that has turned some boys' heads, despite her young age.
Kairi does keep neat and tidy, a habit aquired from living in a town on the ocean--- sand gets everywhere, and if you don't keep up with it, you'll have it in your hair and carpet for the rest of your life.

Best Subject: It's hard to say, but probably Flower Arranging. It's easy and it's fun. Plus, not a whole lot of homework... poor thing's going to be burried in it. She wont have to chose whether she'll have to skip an assignment to do another for this class!
Greatest Fear: Losing Sora and Riku forever and knowing there's absolutely being no possibility of getting them back. Because, when they’re gone for good, she'll be lost and alone. Being taken away from them forever would hold the same affect.
Simply, no one else understands her as well as her boys... without them, it would be like washing up on a new shore, like nothing they had been through together ever existed. Be it mentally or literally, through death or disappearance, Kairi would fall apart without her musketeers. Her fears play off of being disproved about the "good triumphing over evil in the end," thing, which, with these fears, in turn causes her to cling to fragile and false hopes. At that point, it's all she has left.
Relationships with other characters:
Sora -> Grew up with, one of her best friends. Recently left the Academy without a word.
Riku -> Grew up with, one of her best friends. Recently left the Academy, off to look for Sora.
Aqua -> Met at the Academy. A kind girl who helped her around campus her first day.
Axel -> Met at the Academy. An odd guy with a blunt way of speaking; Kairi's not sure if she likes him or not.
Ven -> Met at the Academy. A kind boy, but he seems to have some problems with brother, Vanitas.
Vanitas -> Met at the Academy. Even though she's spoken very little to him, she's none too impressed with his jerky attitude and the way he talks down to people. She has a hard time believing he's related to Ven for that sole reason.
Rourke -> Met at the Academy. Her teacher for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). He seems pretty strict when teaching his class, but he's undeniably pleasant outside of it. He's definitely proud of himself and his students that do well; of course, Kairi couldn't expect any less from a decorated military commander. He's slowly taking on almost a father-figure role.
