[Oliver is in the kitchen, putting the finishing touches of chocolate frosting on a round white cake. he also seems to have put quite a bit of frosting on his face, hands, and shirt--as well as some flour and other ingredients. cooking is not his strongest point. but he licks his finger and, after a second's consideration, seems satisfied] ( Read more... )

Gwen! [Oliver turns to her, beaming happily] We just saved the world! Well, the country at least, and probably the world. Want some cake?

That would be lovely, thank you. And congratulations.

Okay, let me get plates! [he turns back to the cabinet, quickly grabbing a stack] Thanks! I mean, really you should say that to the Doctor. He did the world-saving.

[he brings the plates over to the table and then moves to the drawers, looking for knives and forks] How are you?

I'm sure you helped.

I'm very well, thank you.

[sheepish] Uh, actually, he had to save me, too... I'll have to make up for it next time.

Good. [uncertainly] Are things any better in Camelot?

[he joins her at the table, getting ready to cut her a slice] How big a slice do you want?

What happened?

In Camelot? Oh, things are very well. The knights are training hard, but it has been a long time since they had anyone to fight.

That depends on how much you want to spare.

Uh, short story? I got my mind sucked into a telly. But it's all good now! I've got, erm, my face. And mind and all.

Yeah? [he smiles] That's good to hear.

[he laughs] I can always make more! [although hopefully it won't take him two tries the next time] How about this? [he holds the knife over the cake to indicate a somewhat-large slice]

A telly. [Gwen nodded.] Your friend, the Doctor, explained them to me. And cassettes.

[It had been a very strange conversation.]

A little less, please? I’m not certain I can eat that much.

Ohh, you've met him! Yeah, well, usually a telly's a good thing--great films, fun programs... But, uh, not if an evil alien gets inside it.

All right, as the lady wishes. [yes, he was attempting a posh accent when he said that. please forgive him. in any case, he cuts a slice that's a bit smaller and serves it up for Gwen, offering the plate to her] Do enjoy it.

Only recently. He's very ... interesting. [It was difficult to settle on the right word, but that one seemed appropriate enough.]

Thank you, good sir.

[Oliver laughs] Sounds about right, yeah. [his fondness for the Doctor is clear in his expression, though]

[Oliver grins, fighting back another laugh. no one ever calls him sir!] You're very welcome, my lady.

[His fondness was evident enough to earn a smile from Gwen.]

How did you meet?

[Oliver smiles back] Has anybody ever explained laptops? Because, uh, basically? I bought one from this bloke who turned out to be an alien, and it was actually meant to cause a bidimensional crisis. But! As a side effect of whatever...signal...it was transmitting, it gave me access to the Galactinet, which is basically the internet of the whole universe! And since nobody's supposed to have that in 2006, the Doctor picked up on that, tracked it, and came right to me! And then we saved the universe. Or, uh, both dimensions, really. [he laughs] Not bad for a first go, right? Even if the problem was sort of my fault to begin with...

I understand the idea. [Though probably not very well. And the internet was a bit of a mystery to her.] Not bad at all. Although I'm afraid that I'm not sure what a bidimensional crisis is.

Two dimensions were in danger. You know, the usual. [he cuts himself a slice of cake]
