[Meanwhile having seen all this and attempting to resist the urge to make a face, Ai can be seen kneeling down to start gathering some of the poor boy's school things.]

[Oh snap, a girl!] Ah... thanks! [He peers at her curiously.] Um... do you live here?

[She shakes her head.] I visit here just like everyone else.

Wait... visit? So we can leave? [That's never happened before.]

[Deadpan intro-mode is go!] All you have to do is think about it and you'll return to wherever you came from to begin with. No time will pass whenever you are here in the machine as well.

[He continues to shove things in his bag until he can't see anything else he lost, then he manages to stand up.]

... How did I get here, anyway?

[Had handed over the last of what she collected before crossing her arms.] It helps to walk a few steps while thinking of home, but the results are typically the same. You get used to it after some time.

I haven't come up with a solid theory about arrivals here but all I know is that anyone coming and going is because of the Twins and the Meredith person who run this... experiment. It is my understanding that it's because of them we are here.

[Shrugs] But I could be wrong.

Twins... twins... oh, those twins! The ones inside that... shop...

[He looks around again.]

... Come to think of it, the inside of the shop looked a lot like this.

That is how it starts, but the workings of this place and how they are able to manipulate the different realities are still something I'm attempting to understand.

Realities...? [You used a word that was over two syllables.] Sorry, can you explain that?

[asmallamoroso]

[Oh, Daisuke-- it's like having the Shonen Tantai in one person.] Everyone who comes here are typically from different realities, or worlds if you want to put it more simply. Friends or acquaintances from your world can arrive here too but there are a variety of realities that the machine connects.

[His eyes widen, but he doesn't suffer from immediate screaming and yelling about how other worlds don't exist. Considering he falls through paintings on a monthly basis. Okay, not quite THAT much, but other worlds exist to him, they're just limited ones inside of old creepy haunted artwork.] ... And this place connects to them. There must be a lot of people here, if the things I see laying around are bits of different worlds.

[The young girl nods. Alternate realities were one big leap for her at the time, but it's easier to accept it all from a scientific stand-point. After all this is coming from someone who designed a drug that ended up shrinking grown people into their eight-year-old selves.] People come and go here.

[He nods.

And then realizes, belatedly, that a six year old just explained the multi-verse to him.]

... You're not from Azumano, are you?

[He'll get used to it after a while.]

No. [Her expression suddenly turned thoughtful, now studying the red-haired boy for a moment before adding--] Are you a friend of Hiwatari-kun?

[ROFL. Maybe. Towa-chan looks 16, is really 98, and acts 10. So hey.]

Ah, yeah! Hiwatari-san is- well, it's sort of complicated, but I'm his friend.

[... Let that percolate for a minute.]

He's here?! B-but he never said anything! [But...] Of course he wouldn't say anything... I should have noticed! But... But maybe I couldn't notice at the time because no one ever does...
