[It's taken the better part of a day, but Mu has finally settled somewhere, while the egg in his arms wiggles and jerks - whatever's inside of it really wants out. He sets the egg on his lap, keeping a gentle hold so it won't roll away or break ( Read more... )

[Jamie isn't entirely sure what that is that Mu has in his lap, so naturally he has to go over to get a better look.] Oh, ye have a wee serpent! Did that come from your egg?

It did. Quite a pretty thing, isn't it?

Aye, it is bonny. [He has a satchel with him, and glances down at it thoughtfully. Does he have something like that, too?]

I wonder what it likes to eat?

Fingers, at the moment. [The dragon, indeed, is nomming on Mu's fingers but stops as though it's been caught with a paw in the proverbial cookie jar.]

Did you take an egg?

[There's a twitch of Jamie's lips as he tries to keep from smiling. He's not entirely successful.] He must think they're tasty, then.

[nodding] I did, but it's not hatched yet. [The satchel he has is a simple one, without anything to keep it closed other than the weight of the top flap. He flips it open with one lightly bandaged hand so Mu can see the well-wrapped egg inside.]

I hope that'll be enough to keep it warm until it does.

He must. Thankfully, he lacks teeth at the moment.

[When the dragon sees the egg, he lets go of Mu's fingers and squirms to get a better look of it]

I think that will do, yes.

[A beat, then]

What happened to your hand?

Aye. I'd say that's a good thing. [There's a quizzical glance given to the dragon as Jamie tries to figure out what it wants, then he ahs softly and carefully pulls out the egg.]

Here ye go. [He moves some of the cloth so a bit of a the blue-speckled brown shell is visible.]

Hey? [He had forgotten about his hands for a moment, as they haven't gotten to that super-itchy state yet.] Oh, those. It's just a few wee scrapes I got helping take down the barrier. They'll heal soon enough.

[The dragon snuffles at the egg, then rubs it's head against it affectionately, the way a cat might]

I can heal them for you, if you'd like.

[Jamie considers it seriously for a moment. He appreciates the gesture, and if it was something more serious, he might be tempted. Right now, though, he shakes his head.]

Och, I've had worse. Thank ye for the offer, but I'll be fine.

[He'll regret this later when the itching kicks in, but for right now they're not really enough of a bother for him to worry about it. He watches the dragon nuzzle the egg with a faintly quizzical expression.]

He seems very affectionate. Has he done this with the other eggs?

If you change your mind, I'm rarely too far.

He has. Perhaps he knows their significance.

Aye, I'll keep that in mind.

[Jamie lets the dragon nuzzle the egg as long as it's inclined to, then covers it back up once it's done.]

Well...maybe. Or maybe he just thinks they're family. If they came from the same place, it almost makes sense. [shrugging] As much as anything makes sense around here, anyway.

Have ye thought about what to call him?

I've a few ideas, but I'm going to wait. I don't want to give him an ill-fitting name.

[The dragon snuffles at Jamie's hand a bit, but crawls back to Mu. Dem fingers is tasty!]

I suppose. [He's not completely convinced, however.]

Couldn't ye change it after if it didn't suit, though?

lamb_of_gold August 11 2010, 13:02:01 UTC
I don't think that's exactly fair to him.

Fair? Oh.

I'd not really thought of it that way. How will ye know if it's right, though?
