Hypothetical or no, it must still be addressed.
It is not enough merely to wish it away, or even to heal the damage left in its wake.
It would be like attempting to wish a kiss away, without understanding why it occurred, Without that knowledge, it is certain to happen again.

[She's an awful lot snippier than usual! Maybe it's because she's still wearing the stupid dress she was forced to wear for the party. Maybe it's because Reinette is reminding her a little too much of all the painted upperclass ladies that spent the whole night boring her to tears. Or maybe it's because she's been punched in the face. Whatever it is, it's a little understandable as to why she's so grumpy-- but not any more excuseable. And she knows it.]
