033: Finally We Are No One

[Hei appears out in the middle of the Plane, not really close to any of the major landmarks. He looks tired and somewhat bedraggled, but there's something different about him. He looks...well, happy. Almost to the point of being at peace

I take it from that smile, things went all right?

[contract_star]

I guess they did. Well...it didn't go how I expected, but...I don't know. [Smiles.] It worked out, I guess.

[witchmaker]

[ She sits down next to him. ] I'm glad it did. [ Shoulder nudge. ] Good to see you smiling again.

[contract_star]

Yeah. It's...good to be back.

[witchmaker]

What to talk about it at all?

[contract_star]

I...y-yeah. I suppose.

I met Amber in the center and...she explained everything. What had happened, what was still happening. And she gave me a choice...between humans and Contractors.

And... [His smile fades into something more nostalgic.] I couldn't choose. I'm not one or the other, so...

I guess I chose both. Amber gave me the solution.

[witchmaker]

I wouldn't be able to, either. You made a good choice. Or [ chuckles ] lack of one. What'll happen now? Is your Gate still around?

The Gate is still around, yes. It has to stay as it is--without it the Contractors die. But now...well, the entire Syndicate wants me dead. Yin and I are on the run.
