033: Finally We Are No One

[Hei appears out in the middle of the Plane, not really close to any of the major landmarks. He looks tired and somewhat bedraggled, but there's something different about him. He looks...well, happy. Almost to the point of being at peace

How did things go?

[contract_star]

Not...how I was expecting things to go.

[buckingbronco]

[Dino sits down next to him] You look like they went pretty well though.

Well...I think so.

[buckingbronco]

What did happen then?

[contract_star]

I...couldn't choose. [Small smile and a vague chuckle.] Indecisive to the end, I guess.

So...I guess by not choosing I...chose both. I didn't want... [Smile fades and he sighs.] I didn't want anyone to die.

I stopped the Syndicate. The Gate stayed intact. So...for now, both Japan and the Contractors are safe.

[buckingbronco]

[Looks at him then smiles]

The Syndicate had built a particle accelerator to destroy the Gate--and it would have taken all of the Contractors along with it. I had a choice to... [Pauses.] To render the Gate unapproachable and destroy Japan...and everyone in it. Or to let the Syndicate destroy the Gate and annihilate the Contractors.

But I'm...I'm not really a human and not really a Contractor. I couldn't choose. But Bai... [Smiles again.] Bai and Amber gave me a third choice. Destroy the particle accelerator. Amber sacrificed herself so that I could do it. And Yin...Yin saved my life.

[Ironic smirk.] Of course now it means the entire Syndicate wants Yin and I dead now.

[buckingbronco]

[From what Hei has told him, having the Syndicate after him isn't good] You made your own choice and it was the right one. Good job Hei. But will you all right with enemies like that?

[contract_star]

As long as we stay hidden, we should be fine. We have to get out of Tokyo first, but even that is going to take awhile. And I've dealt with assassins before.

[buckingbronco]

I'd offer help if we were in the same world, but since I can't do that....[He pops off the Plane and comes back with a bowl of ramen.] Here. Just like I promised.

[contract_star]

Ah! Thank you! [Takes the bowl.] And actually-- [Disappears from the Plane and comes back with a cup of coffee.] Here.

[buckingbronco]

[Takes the cup happily] Thank you!

It's the least I can do. [Starts in on the ramen.]
